THE CROWN OF LIFE

Greetings and welcome back to this enlightening study of the Bible Book of James. We desire to not only gather information about the Kingdom but acquire revelation that is actionable in our lives. Jesus didn’t come, go to the Cross, go into Hell so we could have fire insurance and live our lives like the world. He came to bring many sons to glory which means we are to manifest the goodness of God for all to see. He came so that the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things could be seen all over the earth. Our lives are to show people a taste of Heaven upon the earth. Let’s dive into our text for today.
James 1:12-15 (KJV)
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Oh no, we’re back to the temptation thing! James tells us the man who endures temptation is blessed. What does that mean? This word translated as blessed from the Greek means to be supremely blessed, by extension fortunate, welloff, or happy according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. All that sounds really good to me, I’ll take it all. We can say that great glee, but what is the qualifier in this case? It is to endure temptation.
It seems to me that this person is not just enduring the temptation maintaining the status quo but one who is resisting and overcoming the temptation with the Word of God. Please be aware that I am addressing primarily the temptation to do evil. The temptation to do evil can come from us (will be getting to that in subsequent teachings) or demonic forces. This brings us to a phrase that should cause us all to ponder. The man that endures temptation triumphantly and then walks in the Blessing will “receive the crown of life”. What about those who do not?
The twelfth verse ends with this phrase “which the Lord hath promised to them that love him”. So, a second qualifier for the “crown of life” is to love the Lord. No, this is not talking about the natural worldly sensual emotional response to a person or thing. This word translated from the Greek to English as love is agapaō according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This is the verb form of Divine love. This is something that is your custom to do not just talk about. This love is doing the Scripture, it is maintaining a selfless lifestyle, and walking in Blood Covenant. Do you want to be supremely blessed by God, well off, and happy, victoriously overcoming temptation walking in the image, likeness, ways of God? As I am sitting before the Lord writing this the following passage comes to mind.
Proverbs 4:20-27 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Is this your heartbeat?
TAKE HOME:
- We must recognize the temptation to do evil and it’s source which we overcome with repentance when we have walked into it or overcome with Scripture when of the enemies (demons).
- Are you ready, are you in line to receive the crown of life.
- Is your highest priority the Word of God, is the Word first before all?
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
