LET NO MAN DECEIVE YOU

Ephesians 5:5-7 (KJV)
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
As I pick up our Bible Study in the sixth verse above we are confronted with a command. That command is; [You]”Let no man deceive you with vain words:” So who has the responsibility to see to it that they are not deceived? That responsibility falls squarely on each of our shoulders. The primary meaning of the word ‘vain’ is ‘empty’. Synonyms for vain are; otiose, ineffective, hopeless, unsuccessful, unproductive, futile, useless, abortive, hollow, empty, idle, pointless, proud, narcissistic or vainglorious. Since most Church services are unproductive do you suppose some of this is going on right under our noses and is unrecognized? Many Churches have impressive alter calls, many come forward, perhaps there are great tears, even some visible evidence of the presence of God but as you observe over time you will detect no change. No change is the result of vain words.
We the born again children of God are to guard against hearing and incorporating vain words into our thinking. These vain words spoken of deceivers are the children of disobedience upon the wrath of God will come. If we listen to the vain words and make them our own our hearts become increasingly hardened and we reject the Truth. Disobedience is a choice we make but the devil is very happy to facilitate the process so in the end we are children of the devil, children of disobedience. The origin of disobedience is the devil whose name was Lucifer when he was known as “son of the morning” (Isaiah 14:12). The Apostle Paul speaks of these sins of the world in the Church often, see the following Scriptures, notice the similar or like context.
Ephesians 2:2-3 (KJV)
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Colossians 3:5-10 (KJV)
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV)
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envying’s, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
We cannot be in bed (so to speak) with the children of disobedience even if they sit on the same row as we do at Church or if they are in our natural family. Always remember the following verses.
2 John 1:10-11 (KJV)
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
The Apostle John warned against persons with vain words, he said they were deceivers and of the spirit of antichrist. To bide a person God speed would be things like voting for a person who supports the abortion – LGBT agenda, promoting a person who is engaged in the things we have been discussing this week and last, and being best friends with persons with whom you are not in agreement.
2 John 1:7 (KJV)
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
Note that not every deceiver knows they are a deceiver. Some are outright charlatans but most have failed to prove whether the words they are speaking are the Truth, they have failed to be Berean’s.
Acts 17:10-11 (KJV)
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Let’s look at the final verse from our text.
Ephesians 5:7 (KJV)
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
Do not assist in any way persons involved with fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, filthiness, foolish talking, jesting, whoremongering, idolatry, or speakers of vain words.
