LOOKING FOR A CITY
Wednesday – April 18, 2018, Iyar 3, 5778

Welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study from the faith Book and the faith chapter. God is so good to give us His Word, in which we must have unwavering faith, to achieve the wonderful luxurious plan God has for us. Yes, He has a luxurious plan, do we ever wonder why it is not present in our lives. Could it be that we believe the devil’s lie propagated by the Church which says that our promises are spiritual and are over there? Such a sad commentary on the Church, we are watching the death of the organized Church, the great apostasy is already in full swing, and they don’t even know it. When I speak of the death of the Church, that does not mean they are disappearing, it means they are irrelevant in the culture and in the Kingdom of God. Well let’s get back to our primary text, now read it aloud.
Hebrews 11:8-10 (KJV)
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
In verse ten of our text we find the statement that Abraham was looking for a city whose builder and maker is God. I have not seen that explicitly noted in the account of Abraham however I believe the Lord has given me a glimpse of the Truth here. In Genesis chapter fifteen there is the initiation of The Blood Covenant with surrogate blood but is ratified by Jesus’ Blood some two-thousand years later on Calvary. The Old Covenant was ratified by the blood of innocent animals which was for a season and could never remove sin and redeem mankind. God Himself in Genesis chapter seventeen (17 = victory) changes Abram’s (exalted father) name to Abraham (father of multitudes). Abraham accepts this and the needed faith statement comes from Abraham’s mouth and the birth of Isaac soon followed.
Genesis 17:17 (KJV)
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
Remember this was not written with any punctuation at all in the original manuscripts. In the KJV anything in italics was not in the original manuscripts and was added by the translator to add context or ease of reading. God has just told Abraham that his wife now named Sarah will have a son and as a result kings of people will result. Well brother and sister you and I are the kings that have come of her through the King of kings, Christ Jesus. Isaac was the physical son of promise and Jesus was the spiritual Son of promise. Jesus would come through the physical lineage of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jesus also came of the Spiritual lineage of Heaven, or God, He was God. Jesus as a flesh and blood man, divested of all that made Him fully God for a season, shed sinless blood for man and God. Okay, back to a wider look at the Genesis seventeen Scripture.
Genesis 17:15-17 (KJV)
15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? (cross throughs added by Dr. Wood to read as original, a faith statement)
This laughter by Abraham here and Sarah in the next chapter is not laughter of doubt but delight. This was real good news, not just for Abraham but for us, for the heathen. This good news was not just of a son for Abraham and Sarah, or a land for their descendants to have as their very own, but for a redeemer. God showed Abraham the coming Kingdom, and a Holy and Heavenly city whose foundations are built, made by God. Jesus is the cornerstone of that foundation. We will delve into this further tomorrow, the Lord willing. God is so good. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
