MANY SONS TO GLORY
Wednesday – Aug 2, 2017

Welcome back to our Bible Study taken from the Book of Hebrews and presented by Dr. Wood and The Three Minute Word publications. May the Lord Himself, as we willingly choose to see and to hear, expand our sight and vision for the spiritual realm. In this way, we choose to become more like Him. Let’s each one of us ask ourselves, what have I chosen today? These are decisions with eternal consequences. Once again, I remind us all to honor and to pray for Israel, pray for the Jewish people, and pray for Jerusalem. The blindness of the Hebrew peoples will come to an end. Consider the following.
Romans 11:25-27 (KJV)
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
The picture above depicts Jerusalem above (Heavenly) and Jerusalem below (earthly) (Psalm 122).
Now to the text of our Bible Study in Hebrews.
Hebrews 2:8-10 (KJV)
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Jesus took my sin thereby taking my death both spiritual and physical. I am the righteousness of God in Him (Christ). By my choice of Him, I have been delivered from spiritual death to eternal life. The writer of Hebrews by the inspiration of God tells us again that Jesus is the Creator and all was created for Him therefore it was His responsibility to make Adam’s bad choice right. Let’s look at Hebrews 2:10 in a different translation of the Bible.
Hebrews 2:10 (HCSB)
10 For in bringing many sons to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God—all things exist for Him and through Him—should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Our text in the HCSB makes it clear that Jesus was the perfect source of our (and His) salvation because of the things He experienced. Jesus suffered or experienced temptation just as we do and He showed us the way of a sinless life. As we examine this Scriptures and many others I think we can all see the interweaving of the three persons of God from Scripture to Scripture. The KJV refers to the “captain of their salvation” referring to Jesus and the sons (you and me) to follow, the HCSB refers to Jesus as “the source of their salvation, and the MSG (Message) translation is perhaps best of all saying Jesus was “the Salvation Pioneer”.
Hebrews 2:10 (MSG)
10 It makes good sense that the God who got everything started and keeps everything going now completes the work by making the Salvation Pioneer perfect through suffering as he leads all these people to glory.
The Message translation conveys a better idea of what happened between Calvary and the Resurrection which was that Jesus was the first one begotten (saved) from the (spiritually) dead. He was the Salvation pioneer making a way for us all who chose Him. Meditate the following Scriptures regarding Jesus being the first begotten from the dead (spiritual dead).
Romans 8:29 (KJV)
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Revelation 1:5-6 (KJV)
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Thank you Jesus for I am one of those many sons that is a partaker in your glory, your goodness, and your salvation. These all too limiting words of our language seem so inadequate to describe the reality of what we have entered into and we haven’t seen nothing yet brother and sister. Just how much intelligence does it take to choose the Kingdom of God over eternity in the lake of fire? That people are doing just that in droves is prima facia evidence of the effectiveness of the deceptive practices of our spiritual enemies. I suspect that even the devil is surprised at the malarkey we will swallow.
When we look at our text Hebrews 2:10 and the phrase: “to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” we might wonder about the word ‘perfect’. The other thing that is interesting is the Biblical Numerology of this verse. Aa you may recall Hebrews is the nineteenth Book of the New Testament and nineteen is the number of faith. Two is the number of union. Ten is the number of responsibility. Could we say then that it was the responsibility of Jesus to bring man and God back into union by faith. Seems like that is exactly what the verse is saying. Jesus is the source of our salvation and we are told that He was made perfect through suffering. Anyone who has given even cursory thought to the process of crucifixion could I think agree on a real significant amount of suffering. Remember Jesus suffered physically but considerably more spiritually. Scripture gives us insight into His physical anguish, however listen to His spiritual anguish when He cried from the Cross the following words.
Matthew 27:46 (KJV)
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Finally, the word ‘perfect’ from our text can also be translated made complete. Remember Jesus was saved the same way we are by the Blood of the Lamb and the words of His testimony. He suffered and shed innocent Blood physically, was in mental anguish, and died spiritually when He was made sin on our behalf. He descended into Hell and I am sure the devils were rejoicing thinking they had finally achieved their objective of defeating God (boy, was he in for a surprise). When Satan presented his case, Justice (The Father) found that Jesus had shed innocent blood which He accepted as payment for us all. Jesus was resurrected by way of Abraham’s Bosom leading those who were captive there free. When Jesus was resurrected (He was first) the saints in Abraham’s Bosom were resurrected (not just raised from the dead). Jesus then went on to the Mercy Seat of Heaven presenting His blood before the Father ratifying the New (Blood) Covenant between God and man. Then as we read already in the first chapter of this magnificent Book Jesus was restored as God. He was made complete again.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
