MARY STOOD WITHOUT

Greetings dear and precious family of God and welcome back to our powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. I always feel like writing “good morning” when I start these teachings but not everyone reads these in the morning. We are almost to the end of this Book of John and I am looking to God for where to go from here, perhaps Isaiah, we will see. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to increase the reach of the Truth. The featured picture today is through my study/prayer room window after a snowstorm from a year or two ago.
As you will recall, Jesus has laid down His life and has now taken it up again as He said He would, even as the Father had given Him commandment. The price of our redemption, deliverance from sin, the curse, and the devil is paid. Like all else in our lives, these things or alternatives are obtained and become spiritual and physical realities by our choices. Are we proving everything we hear and believe by Scripture and the inner witness (Holy Spirit) or are we being led around by the demons, and the traditions of men? Now, let’s turn to our primary Bible text in the Book of John and read it aloud, yes, out loud. Our physical and spiritual ears need to hear every last bit of Scripture. We are not just listening for sound but we are choosing to hear to understand. We receive, prove, believe, and implement into our lives all that is of God.
John 20:10-14 (KJV)
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
One has to wonder what was going on in the Apostles Peter and John thinking. We know from prior Scripture and that to come there was fear, guilt (Peter), and bewilderment. The contrast between what they witnessed for three years and now was diametrically opposed. They saw Him as invincible and He was, they didn’t catch or understand He came to lay down His life for all and then take it up again for He was innocent. He was not subject to the law of sin and death due to His innocence from conception. However, when He was made sin by the Father for our sakes, He was subject to the law of sin and death and suffered both spiritual and physical death. His innocent Blood cried out and the Words of His mouth cried out and Justice (God the Father) by the Holy Spirit raised Him up. Back to verse ten, I suppose, having nowhere else to go, Peter and John returned home leaving Mary weeping at the tomb. Mary Magdalene was a part of the entourage that moved from place to place with Jesus and the other disciples.
Luke 8:1-3 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
Mary Magdalene had much to be thankful over. Mary Magdalene was in tough shape before Jesus came to town but she believed and He made her every bit whole. She was forgiven of much and healed of much and loved much. Perhaps the following verse applies.
Luke 7:47 (KJV)
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
She then became a part of the Ministry and if I can put it in more modern terms a partner financially with the Ministry. As she is there at the tomb taking it all in, she looks again into the sepulchre and sees two angles, one at each end of the platform on which Jesus was laid. This woman had lingered at the empty tomb and great is her reward. When it seems like our promise is empty, not coming to pass, do we give up and go to the house or do we persevere? I have never knowingly seen one angel let alone two! They ask her why she is weeping? Weeping is not a part of faith in the promise but rejoicing is a part of faith. It seems to me she was more in faith than not for she stayed at the tomb when others abandoned the empty tomb and her. The empty tomb alone one might think would be enough to keep one there and think about the things Jesus told them before the Crucifixion. Are we sometimes too quick to look at natural things and forget or relegate the Word of God to a lower position?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)

25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
