MOSES REFUSED EGYPT
Monday – May 21, 2018, Sivan 7, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful study of the topic of faith as we are diligent to build our own faith to move mountains. It is not a suggestion in Scripture that we build great faith, it is expected, for it is necessary to build the Kingdom of God in the earth. We are not here to put up with stuff, to compromise, or grovel until we return home to Heaven. We are to dominate in the earth and world systems enlarging the Kingdom and showing the goodness of God for all to see. Moses refused Egypt, let us examine ourselves and see if we have refused Egypt (sin and other gods). Now let’s go ahead and read our primary text aloud and dive right into this teaching.
Hebrews 11:23-27 (KJV)
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
I spent all of last week talking about the intersection of fear, love, and faith. Fear is not something that is to be a part of the Christian life, it is not to be tolerated, and it is not to be “natural” to us. We are to eliminate fear from our lives and dominate over the feelings of fear at every turn. I strongly encourage you to go back and review all of last week, it will pay great dividends. Fear brings stealing, killing, and destruction into our lives whereas love and faith bring nothing but good, nothing but abundance of all things. Now, I will move into the twenty-fourth verse of our text. Our text makes it abundantly clear that Moses’ heritage was not hidden from him and he was very aware that he was a Hebrew and worshipped the Hebrew God and not the gods of Egypt. This was in spite of the fact that he lived, was raised, and no doubt educated in the house of Pharaoh. So, Moses had the very best of a secular education of that day but he somehow had the very best education concerning the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Neither of these fell upon him by accident or some sort of serendipity, he chose these things on purpose. Moses identified more with his brethren the Hebrews than he did the Egyptians although he was raised by a daughter of Pharaoh. Let’s take a look at the incident that brought the call of God on Moses into focus albeit prematurely.
Exodus 2:11-15 (KJV)
11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
Let me remind us all that Moses is of the tribe of Levi meaning that he is by birth a priest in Israel. A priest is an intercessor between man and God in matters concerning both. Moses was apparently becoming aware that he was the one who was to deliver the children of Israel from the bondage of Egypt as we see more clearly in the Acts text below. Moses is forty years of age when he acts in line with his call from God but not according to the will or timing of God. Have you or I ever gotten out ahead of the call of God and things didn’t go as expected as a result? Now, let’s take a look at this in the Book of Acts.
Acts 7:20-25 (KJV)
20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months:
21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.
22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:
25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.
The Lord willing, I will pickup this teaching right here tomorrow. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
