HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART ELEVEN
Sunday – May 20, 2018, Sivan 6, 5778
Greetings and welcome back to another wonderful Sunday teaching from the Word of God on health, healing, and miracles. We are examining this topic by looking at the earthly ministry of Jesus which by the way we are to be emulating. Well, let’s jump right into our study starting with Peter’s mother-in-law which is described by three of the gospel writers.
Matthew 8:14-17 (KJV)
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Jesus has had a busy day and I suspect is ready to rest and get some supper but on arrival at Peter’s house we find that the mother-in-law is sick. If she is sick how in the world are they going to get supper? Anyway, Jesus touches her hand and she is instantly healed and got supper. After supper a multitude gathered outside the house to be delivered of devils and be healed of various sicknesses. Notice the devils were cast out by His spoken words and they will depart at our spoken words, commands in Jesus name. You will notice if you haven’t already that the demons are cast out by the spoken command and healing also comes by way the spoken command. I think verse seventeen is very interesting. It seems to me that the usual interpretation of what Jesus did for us was to take our infirmities and sicknesses upon his body on the Cross. The word “bare” in this verse means to remove. So, I think we can see that not only did He take all of our sin on the Cross and all of our infirmities and sicknesses but right now today He will take away any sickness or infirmity that has a foothold in our bodies, we must only believe (have faith). The Bible Numerology of this verse is also awesome. Matthew is the first Book of the New Testament and one is the number of unity with God. Eight is the number of new beginnings, and seventeen the number of victory. So, in God we have the victory and a new beginning. Each one of the persons touched by the Master that day outside and inside Peter’s house were touched by God and had a new beginning. Now, let’s see what Mark has to say about this event.
Mark 1:29-34 (KJV)
29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
There is a little bit more detail here with regard to which disciples were with them at the time but the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law and the events which follow are basically the same. Notice it says the whole city was at the door. Is your reputation or mine such that the whole city gathers at the door if we are home? Be reminded, these people had heard something, they had faith that they would be healed if they could but have Jesus lay hands upon them, and they came to Him. The same has got to become true in our lives! Okay, let’s move on to the account by Luke.
Luke 4:37-40 (KJV)
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Here the Doctor, disciple, and Apostle Luke tells us that Jesus was famous. Do you remember what God told Abraham the Blessing would do in his life? It would make him famous. We are to be famous, we are to be known for wonderful things above and beyond what the world can provide. In this account we see clearly that He did not speak to the woman, He did not speak to the Father, but He spoke to the fever and the fever obeyed. Are you begging God and wondering why nothing is happening? The Holy Spirit and the Holy Angel assigned to you are waiting for your command and they will perform the words of your mouth and my mouth.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
