SIN NO MORE
Friday – March 8, 2019, Adar B 1, 5779
Well praise the Lord you are back for another dose! The Lord sure is good. Greetings and a big welcome to all who are partners and friends of this ministry and publication. Now, back to this wonderful and powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. Let us read our primary Bible text aloud.
John 8:7-11 (KJV)
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
You will recall that the scribes and pharisees have brought a woman before Jesus, but not the man, whom they have caught in the very act of adultery. In the very act would require the man to have been present and knowingly released by the scribes and pharisees. This act on their part means they condoned the act for his part and they became equally guilty of adultery and therefore also subject to punishment which is death. I don’t know what Jesus wrote anything on the ground. As I mentioned before my speculation is that He was waiting for direction from the Father, as He is waiting on the Father, the Holy Spirit is convicting these sinners, hypocrites, and they walk away being pricked in their consciences. They know they released the man and are worthy of death by the Law of Moses (God’s Law) so they don’t need to be reminded of other sins. Isn’t it just the way, the sin one person accuses another of is frequently the sin they themselves are doing or will soon do? This is why judging (declaring an outcome with regard to another person) and abandoning love is so dangerous even deadly.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV)
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. (charity is agape – love in this text)
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
We need to stop trying to do the job of the Holy Spirit. Let’s decide to love instead. That is not to say we do not recognize sin but we choose not to be another’s judge and jury, but we do what we can to pick them up and restore them.
Galatians 6:1-2 (KJV)
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
We are not told what the “law of Christ” is but I think the following Scripture gives us some insight. The foundation upon which we stand is love, God is love, and therefore we are love, and to violate that brings destruction all around us.
James 2:8-9 (KJV)
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
The scribes and pharisees in our account had respect to persons letting the man go thereby committing sin themselves (actually sharing in the sin of adultery). People do the same thing today voting for politicians we support abortion. Finally, Jesus tells this woman to “go, and sin no more”. Jesus did not narrow the command to adultery but to sin in general. If it were not possible for her to sin no more would this have been just for Justice Himself to have commanded her. In spite of the foolishness that is taught, we are not required to sin, and we are not doomed to sin, it is a choice we make. At salvation we no longer have a sin nature but a righteousness nature. Lord willing, I will pickup here next week, many blessings my friends and partners.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
