THE COMFORTER IS THE HOLY SPIRIT
Thursday – January 16, 2020, Tevet 19, 5780

Greetings to our wonderful and precious friends and partners of this Ministry and blog. Welcome back to this powerful and course correcting Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are reading this on Facebook please take a moment to hit the “love” and “share” buttons to encourage us and spread the good news. The featured picture today was taken on the day Donna and I married, May 25, 2019, a joyous and wonderful day by any measure. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it aloud. Yes, read it aloud! How does faith come? Do we need faith? Are we to live by faith? In case you are struggling, faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17), and, yes, we need faith (Hebrews 11:6), we cannot please God without it, and yes, faith is to be a lifestyle (Romans 1:17). Now, let’s read this text aloud.
John 14:25-28 (KJV)
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
As you will recall we are in the final hours of the Ministry of Jesus in the earth before the Cross. In comparison with the other gospels there is much recorded in these final hours compared with the years preceding. In the twenty-fifth verse Jesus tells them and us that He is telling them this while present with them. He then immediately tells them that it is so the Holy Spirit can bring these teachings to their remembrance. For what purpose? To tell us! These are words to live by, they are life if we obey, death if we do not. The Words do not bring the death for they are only spirit and life (John 6:63) but the absence of the Word or the lack of a willing heart or disobedience results in stealing, killing, and destroying in our lives. The wages of sin (failure to get and do the Word) is death (Romans 6:23). I don’t think we have taken these things nearly serious enough over the years. Many of our lives are filled with the curse and we by the devils’ design (his wiles, deceptions) are oblivious to the reasons. Unfortunately, many doctrines of devils have arisen to explain the presence of the curse and sometimes how it is bringing glory to God. Give me a break!
Jesus tells us as plain as it gets that the Comforter is the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. If we are patient and look for it, even search for it diligently the Word of God will always explain the Word of God. Scripture is self-proving. One of the purposes of the Comforter coming is to bring things to our minds that Jesus (the Word) has said to us. If we have not studied and don’t have the Word within us, He can’t bring it to our remembrance. Our text also tells us that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. What would be excluded from “all”? I have mentioned before but will reiterate it now. It is frequently safe and gives further insight into Scripture if we substitute the word “word” for the word “thing” in Scripture. A good example is the following passage.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Using the preceding passage, one could say whatsoever words are true, whatsoever words are honest and so on. All things such as a tree are described with words or have a name which paints images. The more words the more detailed the image and exact the communication. Context of course is important when considering substituting “word” for “thing”. For example, the following verse uses the word “thing” in the phrase “Is any thing too hard”. The Hebrew word translated as “thing” is transliterated as “dābār” according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary and is most commonly translated as “word” and the root word means to arrange.
Genesis 18:14 (KJV)
14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Looking back at the definition we could say not only is any word too hard for the Lord but we could say is any arrangement too hard for the Lord. Of course, the resounding answer is, NO! The purpose of words is not primarily for communication but to cause change or to rearrange. So, back to our text, Jesus is saying that the Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance all the Words I have spoken and by extension the arrangements (for us) I have made or spoken by faith, in love, led of the Holy Spirit. Jesus made some wonderful arrangements for us like salvation, Heaven in place of Hell, a new Father in place of the devil, abundance of every kind, and many more.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
