DID YOU INVITE THE BITE?

Greetings to all and welcome back to this teaching series titled “The Curse Causeless”. This Truth from the Word of God may not make one comfortable but bringing comfort is not the only purpose of the Word of God. It is a comfort when we are seeking first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things, but it is a warning for those who are off His path. Of His path means we have breached the Word of God, and the demonic powers can take us captive at their will. Let’s revisit our anchor Scripture and move forward in this study.
Proverbs 26:2 (ESV)
2 Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, a curse that is causeless does not alight.
To reiterate, the curse will not, cannot enter our lives without a cause. God is never the cause, the devils are never the cause, leaving you and I as the cause. To avoid our accepting responsibility for our actions, which include our thought life and the words of our mouths, all kinds of false explanations have sprung up. Sometimes we just see a shrug of the shoulders and the statement “we just don’t understand these things, but God is working all things to our good and we’ll understand it by and by”. This does a great disservice to the hearer and the body of Christ. I am not saying that we are to jump in with both feet when someone is in the middle of a tragedy with this Truth. In the midst of the tragedy, we must come in love, support, and compassion. However, this needs to be a common teaching in the body of Christ so that we are on guard to maintain the hedge of protection and if breached know to search for the cause of the breach and repair the breach. Let’s review this same Truth in the following Ecclesiastes text.
Ecclesiastes 10:8 (AMP)
8 He who digs a pit [for others] will fall into it, and whoever breaks through a fence or a [stone] wall, a serpent will bite him.
This text is very clear as to the cause of the curse manifesting in our lives. It is us! Yesterday I ended with the following text, so let’s pick up with it again today.
Proverbs 4:23 (ESV)
23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Keeping our heart is keeping our thought life. We are responsible for our thoughts, at least the thoughts that are more than fleeting. A minister once said, “you can’t prevent the birds from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building a nest in your hair”. Yes, we can control what we choose to think about. Are you choosing to think about all the things contrary to the Word of God or are you choosing to think about the Word of God answer to the trash of the devils? One breaches our wall of protection, the other maintains our wall, hedge, of protection.
Our life goes in the direction of our thoughts, the things we think about that we believe. These thoughts will come out of our mouth and become our life. Springs of life in the b portion of the Proverbs 4:23 text can also be translated as borders of my life. The Word of God is the border of our lives! In the Word, inside the borders of the Word is safety, outside the Word is stealing, killing, and destroying, the devils bite, and we experience the curse. As I conclude let’s review what should be a very familiar go to Scripture for those following this Ministry for any period of time.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (ESV)
1 “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
As you take time to read down through verse fourteen you will not find one bit of curse in obedience to the Word of God. On the other hand, if we choose to either ignore or walk in ignorance we invite the curse into our lives. There is nothing you want in the next fifty-three verses of this chapter.
Deuteronomy 28:15 (ESV)
15 “But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.
Who chooses the blessed life and who chooses the cursed life?
TAKE HOME:
- If the curse is present in our life, we have breached the Truth allowing the serpent to bite, we have left the path of safety prepared from the foundation of the world.
- Are you paying close attention to your thought life and your words? Have you noticed that they align with your present life?
- Who chooses the blessed life and who chooses the cursed life?
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
