THE SEED
Monday – April 30, 2018, Iyar 15, 5778

Greetings and welcome to this wonderful faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews and the faith chapter, the faith “Hall of Fame”.
As you know we left off last Friday with the phrase “only begotten son” when obviously Abraham has fathered in the natural two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. At the time of the command for Abraham to take Isaac to the land of Moriah for sacrifice, Isaac was Abraham’s only son. Remember that the phrase “only begotten” means only one now or the only one remaining. The bondwoman, Hagar, and Ishmael were cast out and Ishmael had no inheritance with Abraham. Gods’ promise of a son was to Abraham and Sarah not to any other and that son would be named Isaac, the son of laughter (remember both Sarah and Abraham laughed in contemplation of the promise). The New Blood Covenant (Genesis chapter fifteen) is between Jehovah, the Word, the Holy Spirit, and Abraham. The Covenant, the promises were made to Abraham and the Seed (Galatians 3:16). Part of the promise to Abraham was for an heir, a child (Isaac) and a land for the Hebrew people. From this child, Isaac, would come the Seed (Jesus, the Word) who would return the Blessing and restore all things for whosoever will receive Him.
Genesis 17:19 (KJV)
19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
The word “seed” here is masculine in gender and singular in number meaning Jesus. Isaac is the seed that gave rise to the nation of Israel and Jesus is the seed who gave rise to the Church. This Blood Covenant with Abraham and Isaac was the legal mechanism that allowed God to come into the earth and destroy the works of the devil. God was herding cats for two thousand years to find a man like Abraham and then another two thousand years to bring all into place for the birth of Christ. The featured picture today depicts the arrival of The Seed.
Galatians 3:16 (KJV)
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Now let’s move to our primary Bible text in Hebrews reading it aloud.
Hebrews 11:17-20 (KJV)
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
The phrase “only begotten” is used in Scripture only six times, five of which refer to Jesus (The Seed) all in the Book of John or 1st John, and only once referring to Isaac here in Hebrews. As we look at the meaning of the word that leads to this phrase “only begotten” in addition to what I said on Friday and above we can also come away with the translation of “unique” or “one of a kind”. The key in both cases seems to be the Blood Covenant involving Abraham/Isaac and The Seed/Jesus. God has many sons, you and I as children of the Most High are sons and daughters in Christ Jesus. Adam was called a son of God. Israel was referred to as a son of God.
Luke 3:38 (KJV)
38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Exodus 4:22 (KJV)
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
1 John 3:2 (KJV)
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Let’s look at the difference between Adam before sin and Christ Jesus now. Presently Christ Jesus is all God (large G) and all man with a flesh and bone body. Adam before sin was of God and god (small g) with a flesh and bone just as Jesus has this day. Brother and sister, we will be as Jesus is at the Catching Away, or the Resurrection. Of course, even now in Christ Jesus we are gods with dominion over all the works of His Hands (Psalm 8:4-6). Let’s see what Jesus had to say about this issue.
John 10:34-36 (KJV)
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? (Cross reference is Psalm 82)
Jesus is THE SON of God, and each of us are a son of God. We are now restored fully in His image and likeness, again of like kind, a living soul, with full authority in the earth, and the presence of the Blessing to accomplish all that we decree according to the will of God. As we finish today, I know I have given you much to think about, and what I have given is not all that is evidenced in Scripture. Jesus was unique, one of a kind, in that He was fully God divested of what constituted the difference between Adam and God. He was the last Adam. His spirit man was the same as existed from eternity past however when He came into the earth He divested Himself of that knowledge and all the unique powers of God (omnipotent, omniscience, and omnipresent) becoming like Adam. Jesus’ body was of the earth like Adam. The spirit man of Adam was of God, made of the same elements as God, in His image and likeness (of like kind) and Adam’s body was of the earth. Hebrews 10:5 tells us that God the Holy Spirit prepared a body for the habitation of Jesus’ spirit man. Remember in John we are told that the Word became flesh, which is not only referring to the many prophetic words of the Prophets but The Word Himself took on flesh.
John 1:12-14 (KJV)
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
We see in the twelfth verse, the verse of the government of God, we are given power, authority, to be sons of God by believing on His name, the name of Jesus. In verse thirteen we are born from unrighteousness to rightness by the will of God. This word “born” can also be translated as begotten. Then the verse of deliverance (fourteen) tells is that the Word was made flesh. The word translated as “Word” is logos, which are spoken words. Again, in this verse we see that phrase “only begotten” when right above it is the statement of others being born of God. It is referring to the unique, the only One at the time, one of a kind nature of this Son. I promise I will quit beating this horse and move on tomorrow. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
