Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. It is Friday and time again for our Word of God nutrition. It is also time to be reminded to pray for the body of Christ. Pray for the body of Christ across America and for the body of Christ in the nation of Canada immediately to our north. I have been teaching on the topic of the peace of God ruling or you might say having the dominion over what is accepted into our minds. We ascertained that certain fruit or Godly characteristics were necessary to be operating in our lives for the peace of God to effectively rule. Bottom line, sins fouls everything up! Sin is the result of corrupted knowledge or the lack of diligence to gather knowledge of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. We also found that we must be mindful that we are not a body unto ourselves but we are of one body with Jesus as the head. We also learned that none of it works absent thanksgiving. Now let us look at the next verse from our text which is Colossians 3:16.
Colossians 3:15-16 (KJV)
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Again we are told that we should allow, choose to allow, seek to bring “the word of Christ” to dwell or live in us. Well, just where does the Word of God dwell in a person? The Word of God renews and dwells in our minds feeding and strengthening our spirit and maximizing the potential of the physical body. Our spirit man, the breath that God breathed into us making Adam a living being is eternal and ageless. Our physical body by scientific study estimates that the maximum age to which we can live is one hundred and twenty years. In the original creation environment there were to be no genetic mutations or shifting therefore preserving a perfect genome and therefore an incorruptible body. Initially man lived hundreds of years because even though sin had entered mankind he still spoke predominately like God but that deteriorated over time and the lifespan deteriorated. However there is a process in the human body where we can develop epigenomes which are proteins that attach to a particular area of DNA and change the function of that segment. For example it might change your potential or risk for cancer, heart disease, even slow aging. This all has to do with our thought life. Perhaps now my ramblings don’t seem quite so inane. This is part of why we are told to “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom”.
The Word of God is a living thing or in reality a living person. Before the womb of Mary Jesus was The Word, He still is The Word, He is God, and He is the Son of God and all the titles that go with the redemptive account. The Word of Christ is life to us, it is life or medicine to all our flesh and our spirit man. The “word of Christ” is the Word of God as it relates to the Messiah, the Anointed One, and the Anointing. Well you can see this would be a massive body of teaching. We are more than able to learn this for we have the very best teacher ever, the Holy Spirit. We are to be diligent, and no ‘diligence’ is not a swear word.
2 Timothy 2:15-16 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
It is essential that each of us study the Word of God in what might seem to be minute detail. Seek out and listen to the most gifted Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers you can find and prove their words.
Acts 17:11 (KJV)
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Next week I will delve a little more deeply into Colossians 3:16 concerning letting the word of Christ dwell in us richly then telling us in some detail how Christians are to interact with each other.
