THOU ART MY SON

Greetings dear and precious saints of God. We are such a privileged and loved people to be a part of the Kingdom of God, saved from the wrath to come. Thank you, Jesus, for giving to us the fullness of your salvation! Please take a moment to share these teachings expanding the reach of the Truth. The featured picture today is of Donna and me in Groton Massachusetts over a year ago at a very nice restaurant. Our study of this Book of John has been wonderful thus far and we are far from done. Over the last few weeks, we have seen Jesus come to the Cross, the primary reason He (the Word) came into the earth. Now He is risen having taken our sin, our punishment, being made a curse in our stead, redeeming us from the curse and restoring the Blessing (Galatians 3:13-14). The first person to see the risen Jesus is Mary Magdalene and we find her clinging to His feet. Now, let’s dive back into our lesson starting by reading our primary text aloud, yes, our loud.
John 20:17-19 (KJV)
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
We are still dealing with the first and critical ascension of Jesus to the Father and to the Holy Place in Heaven with His Precious Blood (Hebrews 9:11-12). At His Resurrection Jesus receives an immortal body, so He is fully man today, and He is fully restored as the Second Person of the Triune God, therefore fully God. One of these days real soon you and me will have an immortal body like unto His, oh, what a day! Now, let’s turn our attention to the first chapter of Hebrews and the Words of the Father restoring Jesus as God.
Hebrews 1:3-6 (KJV)
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
Let’s take a moment to examine verse five in the Book of Hebrews text above. The Father is distinguishing between Jesus, and angels and letting us know that He is far above angels and has a far more excellent name. So excellent that at the mention of that name every knee bows, not some, every.
Philippians 2:7-11 (KJV)
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Notice this phrase in Hebrews 1:5; “Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” This day is referring to Resurrection Day not the day He submitted Himself to the womb of Mary. Jesus was begotten of the Father by the agency of the Holy Spirit when He entered the womb of Mary but this is another day, another begetting. Jesus became a Son of God the second time exactly the same way we all become sons (and daughters) of God, which is by the Blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimony. Jesus was not a Son in eternity past (before the womb of Mary). He became a Son upon entering the womb of Mary the first time. He was separated from the Father and no longer a Son when He was made sin for our redemption. However, when He was found to be innocent, He was again begotten of the Father (by the Holy Spirit). He is the first begotten from the spiritually dead but praise God many sons have followed. Meditate and rejoice my dear brothers and sisters!
Romans 8:29 (KJV)
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Hebrews 2:10 (KJV)
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
