TWO IMMUTABLE THINGS
Friday – December 1, 2017

I hope that all readers have enjoyed the study of the promises of God to Abraham confirmed by an oath (Blood Covenant) bringing the Seed obtaining freedom and restoration for all peoples. I now will move forward in our terrific Bible Study from the wonderful Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 6:17-20 (KJV)
17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
As we look at the preceding text we see that both the promises of God and His oath (The Blood Covenant) are immutable. When we look at a Thesaurus to discover perhaps more common words that have a similar meaning to immutable we find: unchallengeable, absolute, unassailable, incontrovertible, undisputable, undeniable, irreversible, final, unalterable, unchangeable, permanent, irretrievable, fixed, binding, and unchanging. The antonym for immutable is flexible. The Word of God is not flexible, it is what it is and that is all. Our text tells us that the Word of God, a promise of God, should be sufficient however God was willing to swear an oath, enter into Blood Covenant. Remember this exchange between God and Abram.
Genesis 15:7-9 (KJV)
7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
At this point the LORD has spoken to Abram several times and made several promises and Abram has seen some of it come to pass in part (wealth). In this very chapter the LORD has promised Abram a child, land for the natural people that will come from him, the Seed (Jesus) Who will birth a new nation more numerable than the stars, and that he will have a long and satisfying life. Even with all that said Abram asks the Lord GOD for a sign, “whereby shall I know”. This had to be insulting to the Lord but He is merciful and compassionate knowing that we are but as a blade of grass and He was determined to redeem His prize creation so He tells Abram we will enter into a Covenant. The Blood Covenant is the strongest possible Covenant. The Blood of Jesus sealed this Covenant just as the blood of innocent animals sealed the Old Covenant for a season. Let us keep in mind that the Word of God in what we call the Old Testament has not been weakened or passed away, those Words are as true and powerful today as the day God uttered them through the Prophets of old.
Matthew 5:17-18 (KJV)
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
It is appropriate to point out that some things written in the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament have been fulfilled including the coming of Messiah (Jesus). The Sacrificial Law is no longer operative with the coming of the Lamb of God. However, these remain powerful proofs and lessons of the love of God confirm the certainty of His Words. As I end this teaching for today let’s take a look at part of our text in the Message Bible.
Hebrews 6:18-20 (MSG)
18 God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.
19 It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God
20 where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.
The Word of God is not like that of a man which may change with times, circumstances, and passions. The writer of this wonderful Book tells us that those of us who have believed and run to God for eternal life can do so with absolute confidence. We have fled the world and all of its uncertainty for the hope that God has set before us. In the Scripture hope is not an ethereal thing filled with fear and uncertainty but is certain if we do not faint. Our hope is being new creations in Christ Jesus. Eternal life is the gift of God, we are saved by Grace. Our spirit is again alive by the breath of life, we are being diligent day by day to renew our minds to the will of God, and very soon these mortal bodies will but on immortality. Let me point out something that I don’t think the average Christian has thought about which is that the renewing of our minds will be ongoing in Heaven. New Christians and lazy Christians will need more school in Heaven than others but all but a few will need further education. The wonders of God, the Truths of God will unfold for eternity.
Our hope is in Christ Jesus who has entered into the Most Holy Place within the Veil, within the very presence of the Father, in the presence of the New Covenant, in the presence of His very own Blood to intercede for us as our High Priest forever in the order of Melchisedec. He is the forerunner for us entered into the Most Holy Place but each of us in our turn in Him are also entered into the Most Holy Place. As I close let’s look briefly at the following verse.
Hebrews 6:19-20 (KJV)
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
The word “soul” in the nineteenth verse is the Greek word transliterated to English as “psyche” according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word seems to encompass our whole spirit man not just the mind or the decision making (filter) part of our mind transliterated from the Greek as kardia and frequently referred to as the heart. Our hope who is Christ Jesus is already within the veil as is our spirit man (yes, we are in two places simultaneously). Our physical bodies (glorified) shall soon follow at the Catching Away (Rapture/Resurrection). Next week Lord willing I will move into the next chapter.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (GW)
24 The LORD will bless you and watch over you.
25 The LORD will smile on you and be kind to you.
26 The LORD will look on you with favor and give you peace.’
