UNDER HIS FEET – UNDER OUR FEET – PART TWO
Monday – July 31, 2017

Greetings from Patti and me and welcome back to our Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews presented by Dr. Wood and The Three Minute Word publication. The photo today is of Patti and me with our sweet dog Chancelot many years ago in front of our home in Texas. We now live in Maine and many people have asked us if we are familiar with the concept and reality of northern winters. If we come crying back to Texas with our tails between our legs in January please don’t laugh, just say: “well bless your heart”. God is so good. Now let’s go to our primary text in Hebrews.
Hebrews 2:8-10 (KJV)
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
This Book of Hebrews is such a wonderful Word from God for all the people for all time. From the title, it would seem that the initial target audience was the Hebrew (Jewish) people. It seems at least part that the intent of this letter was to form a bridge for the Jew from the Old (blood) Covenant to the New (Blood) Covenant. In addition, it enhanced the Christian’s understanding of the progression from the Garden, to Calvary, and to the Throne of Grace in Heaven. Jew (Hebrews) and gentile alike that accept Christ became a part of the Church. The Jewish people (Hebrews) were in fact among if not the foundational members of the Church. In the Garden of Eden there was only one people group and that was the people of God. With sin but before the Cross there were two broad people groups in the earth which were the Jews (and those who converted to Judaism) who worshiped the only true and living God and the gentiles. Since the Cross there are three broad people groups.
1 Corinthians 10:32 (KJV)
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
Those three groups as you can see in the preceding verse are the Jews, the Gentiles, and the Church. The reason it is not the Gentiles and the Church is that God has an eternal Covenant with the Jewish people which is part of the same Blood Covenant from which we (the Church) benefit so immensely eternally. Let me be clear, this does not mean there is more than one path of salvation since the Cross, there is but one and that is Christ Jesus. However, God has Covenant with the Hebrew people and following judgment for the individual and national sin (Great Tribulation) there will be a recognition of the Messiah (Jesus). All of Israel will be saved by the Blood of the Lamb and the words of their testimony.
Unfortunately, except for cherry picking, gentiles by and large tend to ignore the Old Covenant and thereby miss a treasure trove of Truth. You probably have heard the saying that the Books of the Old Testament are Jesus concealed and the Books of the New Testament are Jesus revealed. As you will recall the writer of Hebrews has been comparing and contrasting Jesus, the Son, God restored, with angels and repeatedly pointing out the far superior position of Jesus. We talked at length about Hebrews 2:6-7 and Psalm eight from which this is quoted. We came to understand that these passages apply to both the son of man (Jesus) and to you and me (man). Adam had a wonderful situation but our situation, our position, is far superior, for we are in Christ Jesus. We have an eternal sacrifice to which we can run and be immediately and eternally cleansed at any time. We have also dealt with Hebrews 2:8 but I would like to briefly return to it for a moment.
Hebrews 2:8 (KJV)
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
What I want to focus on is the sentence: “But now we see not yet all things put under him.” Let’s consider this in the light of the following passage as well.
Ephesians 1:20-23 (KJV)
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
We have also read where Jesus must reign until all His enemies are His footstool. Jesus is the Head of the Church. We the Church are the body of Christ in the earth. Be reminded about the meaning of the word ‘Christ’. I could rephrase the preceding statement to say that we, the Church, are the representatives of the Messiah with the salvation message of reconciliation, we are the Anointed ones in His place, and we are the body of Anointing in the earth. Right from the creation of Adam to this day God does nothing independent of men (people). Jesus paid the price of sin and got our authority back which Adam forfeited to the Serpent, He got the Blessing (supernatural empowerment for all peoples) back, and much more. Once again in Him we are “Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:”. Everything was put under His feet, therefore under our feet, when will we understand, believe, and make these evil forces (all of the curse) our footstool and thus His footstool. God is not in control of this, He has given us back the authority and He has endued us with power to subjugate all evil, all of the curse. If we are sitting back waiting for God to do it for us, you know what will freeze over first.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
