The Church pictured is the First Parish Congregational Church located in York, Maine. This Church was first established in 1636. The drawing to the left is the Church in 1667 and the Church to the right was constructed in 1747 when George Washington was just 15 years old. The info and pictures are from their website at firstparishyork.net. All of this to remind each of us to pray for the Church of our Lord, the body of Christ, or the body of anointed ones in the United States or whatever country you live in or are from. The Church is sound asleep even at this late hour. We must awaken, repent of our wickedness, arise and tear down the high places which are the ideas (ways of thinking) words, and ways contrary to the way God thinks, talks, and does things. Then and only then can we, the church, walk in the triumph that was bought for us at Calvary some 2000 years ago. Before we move back to our study of walking in Him let me remind our readers in Maine and others called to intercede for the State of Maine that Maine is the 48th least religious state with only New Hampshire, and Vermont being less religious. In case you are curious Mississippi is the most religious state with 61% saying they are very religious compared with 24% saying they are very religious in Maine.
Now let us get back into our study.
Colossians 2:6 (KJV)
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
The Apostle Paul is telling the saints and faithful brethren at Colossae and Laodicea who are walking in a measure of faith and love that they must keep pressing into the Lord saying “walk ye in him”. I have discussed that to walk in Him is to be like Him. Do you remember what Jesus told Philip?
John 14:8-9 (KJV)
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father. Would or should it be accurate for us to say if you have seen me you have seen Jesus and by extension the Father? The answer is a resounding YES! Just a few verses after this is when Jesus tells us that we are to do what He did and it is not a suggestion. In order to be like Him we must think like Him, we must talk like Him, and we must do like Him. Jesus said that He was able to do what He did because He did not say anything the Father did not say and He only did what the Father did.
John 5:19 (KJV)
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
If Jesus could do nothing then we are in the same boat and need the Father and must do only what the Father does, what we can see the Father doing. Examine the following verses.
John 8:28 (KJV)
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
Jesus repeats that He does nothing of His own volition but what the Father has taught Him, and that is the only things that He, Jesus, spoke and did. Look at the next verse.
John 12:50 (KJV)
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
So do we think this would be good for us to adopt?
