AWAKE, ARISE, AND TRIUMPH

WHAT IS THE IT, IN “IT IS FINISHED”?
Greetings dear and precious saints of God as we enter the last week of 2020. Welcome back to this wonderful and powerful study of the Book of John. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible to expand the reach of this Ministry and the Truth. The featured picture today was taken some years ago by a game camera on the ranch in Texas. I always find this picture to be quite humorous, I don’t know if the cow did. This is the same tank (water) as the white dove picture from yesterday.
I don’t know about you but it seems that this year has raced by and here we are a few days from the start of 2021. Let’s each of us think back over 2020 and examine how we have spent the year. Have we redeemed the time, making the best use of the time? The amount of time we have is finite, are we making it count?
Ephesians 5:15-17 (KJV)
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
God says we are fools when we don’t use our time wisely. Have we engaged in complaining, acts of defiance, walking as a fool or walking as a wise person? Have we been pursuing the will of God with all of our hearts or are we wrestling with flesh and blood? Have you thought about the idea that this pestilence is of the curse, of the devil, and that God, the One in each of us Christians is way more powerful and smarter than the demons? Our Heavenly Father is not the source of Corona Virus but He is using it to separate the men from the boys for sure, and to get us out of our comfy boxes.
One more thing before we dive into our study of the Book of John. The Lord has brought to my attention how the devil has over time brought about changes in the meaning use of words in common usage. For example, let’s again examine the word Church. Originally the word ‘Church’ referred to the body of Christ in the earth (and Heaven). However, over time it has come to be commonly used as the building within which believers (and others) gather. This is a perversion of language and not of God. It would be best for us to refer to the building not as the ‘Church’ but by the name given it, and reserve the use of the word ‘Church’ for referring to any given body of believers. Think on it in the context of this Pandemic and common cries heard from believers. “We need to get back to Church!” “We need to get to Church and worship God”. Gathering at the building we have erroneously called the Church is not an end in and of itself like a social club. Worship is another word the devil has successfully perverted, more on that perhaps later in the week. I don’t think this is as nitpicky as one might be thinking. This is a subtle perversion of thought that works to further the kingdom of darkness and not the Kingdom of Light. Now let’s turn to our primary Bible text and read it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 19:30-37 (KJV)
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
I asked the question in the title of this teaching, what is the “it” in the phrase Jesus spoke in His final few seconds as a man in the earth, “it is finished”. Although much remained to do, in the mind of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit it was done, it was indeed finished. When I say much remained, I am talking about His descent into Hell so we don’t have to go. In our text, He has already died spiritually to redeem us from the curse of sin and death. Jesus, the Messiah will still go into the Bosom of Abraham, preach the gospel, and lead captivity captive to Heaven. He will be Resurrected (not just raised from the dead like Lazarus) from the dead so that we can have the same (immortal resurrection body). He will then be and is now seated fully as God at the right Hand of the Father making a place for us in and with Him. Wow, what a deal, what a Savior.

20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
