FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER – WEEK TWENTY
WHAT DOTH THE LORD REQUIRE – PART TWO

Micah 6:8 (KJV)
8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to the Prophets Chamber. God is so good sons and daughters of God. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to extend the reach of the Truth. As I was praying in my “secret place”, fellowshipping with the Lord, I asked what He would like me to write about today for the Prophets Chamber. This conversation with the Lord went on last Friday and turned out to be a two-week discussion. The verse above is what He gave me and we will explore this in some detail. Last week we started our exploration of this verse which seems quite straight forward, but like many in Scripture the tug of war between the spirit man and the flesh can be fierce. We looked at the meaning of the word “justly” and examined the first use of the word which was with Abraham and we received more insight.
Once again, God is talking to a backsliding people, His people. As we read about the peoples of the Old Testament, we see this recurring cycle. Is this pertinent to us today? Of course, it is, if we are not extraordinarily diligent, we also cycle, hot and cold. This cycling must be broken. To break the cycling will require focus, diligence, and self-control. We must be spiritually minded or focused and not carnally minded or focused. We are to put the flesh under although at times it has a loud voice.
Romans 8:6 (KJV)
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Now let’s take a look at the idea of loving mercy. The word love used here and, in the Hebrew, can have a variety of meanings and intensity unlike the Greek with many very specific words. The word translated “mercy” is the Hebrew word translated to English as ḥesed according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word means kindness, lovingkindness, mercy, goodness, faithfulness, love, and acts of kindness according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Let us determine to treat those around us with kindness whether we think they deserve it or not. There are times we have received kindness, mercy of others, of the Lord and did not deserve it. The following is the first use of this word.
Genesis 19:19 (KJV)
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
This verse comes from the account of Lot, his wife, and two daughters being rescued from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot is a bit of a reluctant and somewhat fussy man in the process of his rescue. Perhaps some of us are as well at times. We want the rescue but on our terms. It’s like the One doing the rescue, the Lord, doesn’t already know what awaits at the new location. The escape location is changed at Lots request and next we see the first recorded episode of incest. When will we just do as the Lord leads?
Now, let’s take a look at the word translated as “humbly”. This is the Hebrew word transliterated to English as ṣānaʿ according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The word is defined as humility (humbleness, meekness, unpretentiousness) according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. The opposite of humility is arrogance which is another word for pride which is an abomination to God. This is to be avoided at all costs. God resists the proud. Remember, this was Lucifer’s cardinal sin.
1 Peter 5:5-7 (KJV)
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
I don’t know about you but with the Lord’s help I opt for humility. Now, let’s see how this word was first used.
Proverbs 11:2 (KJV)
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
The word translated as “lowly” above is the same word used in our Micah 6:8 text. When we practice humility or walk humbly, we are in good company. The Master Himself walked humbly.
Matthew 11:29 (KJV)
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
This does not mean that we deny who we are in Christ Jesus it means that we don’t elevate ourselves over others. We realize we are the servant of all and all persons are equally precious in the sight of God. So let us do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God and our fellow man particularly those of the House of God.
Lord willing, I will have another fresh Word from the Throne next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
