A WELL OF TRUTH
THE CURSED MAN – THE BLESSED MAN

Greetings precious brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, children, sons of the Most High God (our Heavenly Father) and welcome back to “A Well of Truth”. Before we move forward, please take a moment to share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the gospel, the Truth. Today we are going to be focusing on an exciting passage of Scripture and one that I hope none of us are a stranger too. It seems to me that most Christians would happily proclaim that their trust is in the Lord but do we see that reality manifested in their life or our own life? Now, let’s read out loud our Scripture for this teaching.
Jeremiah 17:5-10 (KJV)
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
The Lord is speaking and He is speaking to them at the time of the writing and everyone else through time to us today. People who put their trust in other men, their primary trust, will walk in the curse. If we are solely dependent upon other people for strength, we will be disappointed and more, be walking in the curse. The ‘heart’ in this fifth verse is the mind, the will, the emotions, the intellect of a person. When our heart is focused on man and not the Lord, we will get mans reward which is the curse.
Verse six refers to a ‘heath’ which refers to a bush or a shrub living in the desert or dry wilderness. It is used to compare a person who trusts only in people to this hopeless, isolated shrub according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Like the heath the person trusting only in people does not even see when good is present. On the other hand, in verse seven we see a blessed man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord. This man is planted of the Lord by much water (Word of God) and doesn’t even notice when the drought or heat comes (verse eight). Those things are of the curse and he does not walk in the curse but the blessing. It does not mean the curse does not come, he just does not receive it for he trusts and hopes in the Lord. He refuses to fear, think about, or talk about the curse, he gives it no place. This passage ends with these two verses.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 (KJV)
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
The word ‘heart’ here in verse nine is the same word as in verse five meaning the will, emotions, intellect, and perhaps the mind. The Lord is talking about our flesh which is our physical part and the unrenewed soul or mind. This is our fallen nature and therefore has the characteristics of Satan. Pride and deception are at the very top of that fallen nature. As we move into verse ten, we find the Lord saying He searches the heart and tries our reins, which is to say He tests us as to where our true trust and hope lies. When He sees that we trust Him and our hope is in Him we have the fruit of the Blessing. However, when He sees that we really trust and depend upon other men we have the fruit of the curse.
Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (Bold added)
Lord willing, I will return next Sunday with a fresh Word from the Throne of God.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
