IMPARTATION – PART THREE
Greetings dear friend, saints of God, and welcome back to A Well of Truth. Today I will continue to talk about a topic I don’t believe I have visited before which is “Impartation”. Perhaps you have been part of an “Impartation” service or at least heard of this. The idea is that one person usually the Pastor or a visiting Minister announces they will be imparting some spiritual gift or gifts they possess with those upon whom they lay hands in this “Impartation Service”. Before moving forward please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. My featured picture for this series is of a well with water and a bucket full of water presumably about to be drawn from the well. Commonly in Scripture water is referring to the Word of God. Water cleanses and gives life, likewise the Word of God cleanses and gives life.
In a recent conversation, the person brought up that they were in a meeting where the speaker during alter service was going around the room “praying over people to impart Spiritual Gifts”. I have heard of this before and even been present in an “Impartation Service”. The question that immediately rose up in me was, where is this taught or demonstrated in the Scripture? Are there examples in Scripture of one person laying hands on another and imparting a Spiritual gift like healing, decerning of spirits, prophecy, or other gifts? Let’s give some thought to one more aspect of this. Are the “gifts of the Spirit” part and parcel of the Holy Spirit or something given that can be exercised at will? Let’s use the example of a car. Once the gift (car) is given is it necessary that the Holy Spirit drive the car and can we drive the car at will. I am not talking about a literal car, the car represents healing, prophecy, etc.
I will now pick up where I left off last Sunday. In the Church today there is this idea that certain ones in a denomination determine who and how they may attain to a certain call such as being a Pastor. They then lay hands on the person and fully expect the Lord to honor their choice. Does the Bible teach that?
Acts 13:1-4 (KJV)
1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. (Bold added)
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. (Bold added)
What offices, Five-Fold Ministers did the Holy Spirit work through to call Barnabas and Saul (later called Paul)? The teachers and prophets. Who sent them forth? The Holy Spirit. Let’s consider the following passage.
1 Corinthians 12:28-30 (KJV)
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (Bold added)
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
As this Scripture above points out we are members of a body and have callings and gifts that lead to a whole, complete, functioning body. At a meeting not long ago, the leader while praying for people, shouted that I was to have the same Anointing He had. This ministry leader had in fact laid hands on me for that purpose in the past. This person was operating at a certain level of success but not in the fulness of the Holy Spirit like Christ who said we were to do as He did. The Holy Spirit did not cap this minister, they did, it is a faith and love issue as led of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:34 (KJV)
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Lord willing, I will return next Sunday with fresh water from the well.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
