A WELL OF TRUTH
FLESH OR SPIRIT

Greetings dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries International and welcome back to “A WELL OF TRUTH”. This blog is “A” well of Truth, not “THE” well of Truth. I am drawing from The Well of Truth each week to share with those who have ears to hear what the Spirit says. As we move forward, please take a moment to share this teachings as widely as possible. Thank you for sharing. You who share are a vital part of this Ministry and the Kingdom of God.
Where is my focus, where is your focus? Are we focused on the things of the flesh, the carnal things, or the things of God? One of the things the Lord has been bringing into my thinking often is this idea of focus. As we examine the Thesaurus, we find that focus has to do with what we emphasize, pay attention to first, concentrate on, our motivations, where is our heart, what is the focal point of our lives, and where is our spotlight. We live in this natural world and function in this natural environment according to natural law and spiritual law. Let me bring us all back to what I hope is a very familiar Scripture to spring from.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Is this something we say or is this something we are doing? Are we focused on what we shall eat, wear, or live (plus a myriad of other earthly things) or on our God called mission? For example, do we view our employment or business as completely separate from the call of God on our life to do our part in the building the Kingdom or a vital part of that call? Now, to our core Scripture.
Romans 8:5-8 (KJV)
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
The words mind and minded in our text are similar to focus and include having like minded (thoughts) or being of the same mind (thoughts). What do we pay attention to primarily? What holds our attention, things of God, or things of the world? Have you ever sat down with another or other Christians and the conversation is never spiritual or starts spiritual but quickly goes to things of this world? We must be continually evaluating our thoughts, words, and actions according to Scripture. Is Scripture and attention to the inner witness (Holy Spirit) always in our consciousness or is that for Sunday? The thing is this. Do we view the things of this natural life in terms of how does this fit into the call of God on my life or as something entirely separate?
We need to take verse six very seriously. This is a life and death issue dear ones. If our focus, our primary attention is on the carnal we are at enmity with God. To be at enmity against God means we are hostile, antagonistic towards Him, having animosity. We may not see it this way, but this is how God sees it, so how should we see it? This puts us crossways Gods’ laws which always has an adverse outcome uncorrected. When our focus is not spiritual but carnal, we are not pleasing God. Why? We are not in faith. I can’t speak for you but I sure like the sounds of life and peace way more than death.
Being spiritually minded does not mean we spend all day in the prayer closet and go about quoting Scripture. Yes, we spend time with the Lord and then we get about the work of the Kingdom whether that be on the job, at the grocery store, or in the Church house. Let’s get a proper focus with our attention (mind) on the things that are eternal and not the temporal. Perhaps you have heard the saying along the lines that a person was so Heavenly minded they were no earthly good. If we are spiritually minded (not so much Heavenly minded) we will do much good in the earth. We will solve the problems of this world and draw people to the Kingdom. Like Daniel, the three Hebrew children, Joseph, and others we will be at least 10 times better (more skilled) than those in darkness.
Lord willing, I will return next Sunday with a fresh Word from the Throne of God.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
