A FALLING AWAY
FATHER’S DAY
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to A Well of Truth! Today is also Father’s Day and would encourage each of you to in some way honor your father. Like mine they may have gone on to Heaven long ago but you can still honor their memory before others. Honoring our parents is one of the big Ten Commandments. To honor is to highly value.
Deuteronomy 5:16 (KJV)
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
I was very blessed to have a wonderful Dad, Mom, and family. Perhaps some of you weren’t as blessed, however that does not release anyone from honoring your father. Who would not want their life to go well and to have a long life?
I will now pivot to a brief teaching for today. From time to time the question comes up about why a particular Church is not growing or perhaps is fading and dying. Covid-19 had a very dramatic impact on some but not other Churches, or did it? I have been writing about the temperature, the health, of the American Church for many years. Religion is alive and well but the body of Christ, Christianity, is not. The Church is riddled with the traditions of men, and the doctrines of demons and all supernatural Power of the Holy Spirit is absent. I recently published a book titled Sacred Cows Among the Ekklesia (look it up on Amazon) which addresses some (not all) of the false doctrines in the Church being taught as Truth. There are exceptions but the Church as a whole is a social club devoid of the Power of God. A few mornings ago as I was in prayer the following Scripture came to me.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 (KJV)
1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
The Apostle Paul is telling the folks at Thessalonica to be cautious about what they hear particularly about the day of Christ, the Rapture/Resurrection. He says two things will be in evidence before that day. First is a falling away of the Church. The phrase “falling away” is the Greek word apostasia meaning defection from truth according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Is it possible to leave Church attendance due to a “defection from truth” or to be in Church attendance and also be in a “defection from truth”? It is a fundamental error to assume that all we hear from pulpits is the Truth. I believe some have left the Church thinking that Covid-19 gave a legitimate excuse, they were only going through the motions. Others have left disgusted with the traditions and absence of the Power of God. They do not see the Book of Acts continuing. Others are seemingly thriving in attendance, even in some good works, but also have an absence of the Power of God. This is the Laodicean Church.
Revelation 3:14-17 (KJV)
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
The Church of Christ Jesus is to do good works for sure but there also needs, must be, a flow of Holy Ghost Power. The promises of the Kingdom of God but be on full display in our Churches and in our individual lives.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Jesus was Anointed with the Holy Ghost and Power, the same Holy Ghost and Power we received at being filled. He went about doing good which is the physical side and healing which is the Spiritual side. End time Ministries like the prototype Ministry of Jesus will meet needs and heal all manner of disease.
So, a part of the answer to the question about what is going on in our Churches is that there has been a turning or defection from the Truth, the substituting of works for Power, resulting in many Churches being completely devoid of Power.
