SET A WATCHMAN

Greetings dear friends and fellow believers and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. We will be continuing our study of the Book of Isaiah. Before we proceed further, please take a moment and share this teaching by every means available to you expanding our reach with the Truth. The picture today is to depict the Prophet Isaiah. Prophets are not just Old Testament figures. There are Prophets today, we see clearing when Jesus ascended back to the right hand of the Father this is one of the gifts, He gave the Church for the perfecting (maturing) of the saints. This is not a new thing; it is a continuation of an old thing. Perhaps Jesus was looking to short-circuit the false teachings that Prophets have passed away. That teaching of course is alive and well but has no Scriptural basis.
Ephesians 4:8-12 (KJV)
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Please note that this passage is speaking expressly of the Office of Prophet and not the gift of the Spirit of prophecy. Let’s look at a couple of instances of Prophets in the New Testament.
Acts 13:1 (KJV)
1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
Acts 21:8-10 (KJV)
8 And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.
9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
In the Acts 21 passage we see the distinction between those gifted to prophesy as outlined in 1 Corinthians chapters 12 and 14 and the Office of Prophet. The four daughters of Philip the Evangelist (Office) had the gift of prophecy however Agabus was in the Office of Prophet. Now, let’s turn our attention to our Isaiah Bible text and continue reading out loud. You know the drill, yes, out loud.
Isaiah 21:6-10 (KJV)
6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.
7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:
8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
This passage is continuing to talk about the fall of Babylon, the question is, if this is referring to the fall of Babylon some two-hundred years down the road or the Babylon (world system) of the Revelation. Babylon is a type and shadow of the world system of which Satan is the god. I am going to focus on the mention of the watchman. A watchman is a Prophet. There are many functions of the Prophet but as a watchman is a major one. Please take the time to carefully read the following lengthy passage.
Ezekiel 33:1-9 (KJV)
1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
Now a word of caution. We must discern between the true and false watchmen. A watchman can see (gift of God) into the world and into the camp (Church). The watchman (Prophet) gives warning to both. To the world and the Church, coming judgment. To the Church coming evil toward the Church from the world and arising error in the Church.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
