A WELL OF TRUTH
WHAT ABOUT THE RAIN? – PART THREE

Greetings dear and precious saints of God, my brothers and sisters in our elder Brother Christ Jesus. Welcome back to A Well of Truth. The Holy Scripture, the Bible, is The Well of Truth. Before we move forward, please take a moment to share this teaching by every available means available to you. This assists us in broadening our reach with the good news of the Kingdom of God. Thank you for sharing.
For years I have looked at, confessed, and thanked God for the outpouring of His rain in Joel chapter two and the restoration this rain brings. Perhaps you like myself have heard this rain described as being outpourings of the Holy Spirit, first in the “Old Covenant” and second in the “New Covenant”. On the other hand, I have always seen this rain as an outpouring of the Word of God. A few weeks ago the Lord prompted me to study the Joel text a little deeper.
Joel 2:23-27 (KJV)
23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.
25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
Thus far we have discussed the first two of four uses of the word rain in Joel 2:23 discovering that we are being told that this is the Word of God being poured out by the Master Teacher, the Holy Spirit, and for our teaching. We saw there is also like a double portion when the Old and New Testament Words are combined. The third occurrence of the word ‘rain’ is the same as the first use referring to the spring or early (Old Testament) rain. However, the fourth use of the word ‘rain’ is yet another Hebrew word, Strong’s number 4456 transliterated as malqôsh meaning a refreshing rain according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Its root word means to gather according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. So, this rain is refreshing and causes a gathering in. Of course, the first thought might be that this rain brought the gathering in of the Gentiles, us dear brothers and sisters. Let’s now take a look at the first use of this Hebrew word.
Deuteronomy 11:13-16 (KJV)
13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. (Emphasis added)
15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
I added verses to give further context, it is much like the Joel passage and Deuteronomy 28 don’t you think? Mankind, God’s people, tend to drift away from God in the good times forgetting what (their obedience) and Who (Almighty God) brought the good times. We must at all times be on guard not to deceive our own hearts, allow others to deceive us, or be deceived by demons. Now that we have a great foundation marvel at Joel 2:23 in two other Bible translations.
Joel 2:23 (YLT)
23 And ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered–in the beginning.
Joel 2:23 (MSG)
23 Children of Zion, celebrate! Be glad in your GOD. He’s giving you a teacher to train you how to live right— Teaching, like rain out of heaven, showers of words to refresh and nourish your soul, just as he used to do.
Thank you, Lord for the Teacher, to teach us the Word, that we may truly pursue the Kingdom of God and His righteousness with all of our hearts.
Lord willing, I will return next Sunday with new insights from the Throne of Heaven.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
