WE LOVE TO DO YOUR WILL

Greetings dear and precious sons and daughters of the Heavenly Father, brothers and sisters with Christ Jesus, inhabited by and empowered by our Helper the Holy Spirit. Welcome back to this exciting and empowering Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The beautiful featured picture today was provided by our good friend and man of God, Joe Getchell Jr. Thank you, Joe. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text from the Book of Isaiah and continue reading out loud. Remember, faith comes by hearing, not seeing or thinking, but hearing. This is not just hearing a sound or a casual gathering of information, but a listening to understand and do.
Isaiah 26:7-11 (TLB)
7 But for good men the path is not uphill and rough! God does not give them a rough and treacherous path, but smooths the road before them.
8 O Lord, we love to do your will! Our hearts’ desire is to glorify your name.
9 All night long I search for you; earnestly I seek for God; for only when you come in judgment on the earth to punish it will people turn away from wickedness and do what is right.
10 Your kindness to the wicked doesn’t make them good; they keep on doing wrong and take no notice of your majesty.
11 They do not listen when you threaten; they will not look to see your upraised fist. Show them how much you love your people. Perhaps then they will be ashamed! Yes, let them be burned up by the fire reserved for your enemies.
Last week I spent some time on the seventh verse. A casual reading of this verse might tempt one to jump to the conclusion that in Christ the path is nothing but smooth and easy. This is failing to rightly divide the Word of Truth. God smooths the way for those who trust Him with a whole heart and they meditate upon Him day and night. What about taking to ourselves the whole armor of God? Of course, it includes the knowledge (full knowledge) of and the expert use of the armor. It would also include disciplining our thought life and the words of our mouth. When we do what we can do and what we are commanded to do then God does what only He can do.
Now, let’s turn our attention to verse eight. Do I, do you, love to do the will of God? Hopefully we have all figured out by now that our flesh, our unrenewed mind, is really clever at coming up with ways around doing the will of God. Ways that seem like an exception to the rule. Are we truly focused on Him? Perhaps without fully realizing we focused on ourselves or some mixture Him and ourselves. When it is convenient and easy is when we are focused on Him but otherwise it is “what about me?” Before moving forward let me remind us all what the God kind of love looks like. Notice in our text that love and doing the will of God are connected. Love of God is doing the will of God, the Word of God, not now and again but moment to moment. Godly love is a selfless lifestyle. And third, Godly love is abiding in Blood Covenant.
Can we honestly say it is our hearts desire to glorify His name? The glory of God is the goodness of God. So, to glorify God is to speak of His goodness. I know it is so easy on Sunday morning in the House of God to exclaim that we love the Lord and we love to do His will. We may exclaim that the deepest desire of our heart is to tell of the goodness of our God. An observation is that people frequently are more likely to go on and on about how good the restaurant was they went to last Sunday than the Lord. The will of God is far easier to talk about than to do. We will find some parts of His will easy to do and others difficult. What separates the two. Our flesh, our unrenewed mind. The more we renew our minds the will of God just falls into place.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
It is a command, the will of God, that we be not conformed to the world, the carnal way, the ways of the devil. We are to be transformed by the Word of God when we renew our minds. This renewing is not simply reading or listening to the Word of God but receiving it as our own, proving it, believing it and putting it first place in our lives. The word “prove” in the Romans 12:2 Scripture above can also be translated as allow or discern. Let’s reorder our thinking and our desires in line with the Word of God. Confess the Word, the will of God, in Jesus’ name, our flesh, our emotions may throw a fit but inform them you are in charge and the Word is first place, period.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
