AWAKE, ARISE, AND TRIUMPH

YOU SCOFFING RULERS

Yesterday at 6 pm (sunset) was the start of Rosh Hashanah (yesterday’s article). Today is the first day of the Hebrew Civil New Year and so the calendar has turned from 5782 to 5783. I recently saw a Pastor post an interesting prospective of this Hebrew new year. They had looked up that number in the Hebrew section of the Strong’s Concordance. H5783 means to be bare, to be made naked. This word is used only once in the Old Testament.
Habakkuk 3:9 (KJV)
9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
This verse seems to occur in a time of Gods’ great displeasure being expressed. Much like our study in Isaiah. Things hidden will be made naked before all. I think we can all agree that there are an enormous number of things, especially with regard to our federal government (but all around the world), that need to come out of the darkness and into the light where we can all see the good, the bad, and the ugly. If we look at the numbers themselves of this new Year, we see grace and glory (5), spiritual perfection (7), a new beginning (8), and a Divine completeness. We can expect to see an unusual expression of God Grace and Glory over the next year bringing people and situations into proper spiritual perfection, a new beginning for many, and a clarity for all to see of the Hand of God. This will occur in the midst of the hidden things being made visible.
The featured picture was taken in January of this year from our back yard. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary teaching from the Book of Isaiah and continue reading out loud.
Isaiah 28:13-16 (TLB)
13 So the Lord will spell it out for them again, repeating it over and over in simple words whenever he can; yet over this simple, straightforward message they will stumble and fall and be broken, trapped and captured.
14 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffing rulers in Jerusalem:
15 You have struck a bargain with Death, you say, and sold yourselves to the devil in exchange for his protection against the Assyrians. “They can never touch us,” you say, “for we are under the care of one who will deceive and fool them.”
16 But the Lord God says, “See, I am placing a Foundation Stone in Zion—a firm, tested, precious Cornerstone that is safe to build on. He who believes need never run away again.
Verse thirteen is about as simple as it gets and I think we can see a little frustration of the Lord. I tell you as simple as I can and you still do the wrong thing. This verse is probably most familiar to us in the King James language.
Isaiah 28:13 (KJV)
13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
This is not telling us that the Lord is causing the falling, brokenness, and ensnaring but the people chose another way in spite of simple straightforward instruction. The Lord through His Prophet once again instructs His people, not the devils’ people, but His people to pay attention (Wood paraphrase). He calls His people who are ruling in Jerusalem scoffers. Let’s take a look at this word scoffer or scoffing. It is a masculine noun indicating a scoffer, a mocker, or mockery. It refers to foolish, arrogant, bragging talk (Prov. 1:22), as well as to the scoffers or babblers themselves according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. It is not something they do; it is what they are. Look at the blasphemous words that the Lord quotes from their very mouths.
Isaiah 28:15 (KJV)
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Can you imagine? Sure, you can, we have all done it to one degree or another, hopefully not today. This is saying, you have put your hope in man which will fail and not in the unfailing hope. Meditate on the following until tomorrow.
Jeremiah 17:5-6 (KJV)
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
