FRIDAY NUGGETS
WHAT ABOUT FOOD? – PART THREE

Greetings dear ones in the Lord and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog today talking about food. Before we delve into this topic, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing, you are important to the Kingdom of God and to this Ministry. Today’s teaching is longer than the usual but I believe I am to finish this topic today.
At one time or another we have all heard preaching, teachings, discussions or read articles about whether it is approved of God today to eat any and all foods. I understand there are strong feelings, beliefs, within the Christian community (body of Christ) and among other major religions like Judaism and Islam concerning what is permissible to eat and what is not. I believe the Lord will help us to understand. The answers may not be simple black and white, yes and no answers. Once again let’s review our primary text from the last two weeks. Many times, the quick answer that all foods are permissible for us today comes from the following Bible text.
Acts 10:9-16 (KJV)
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
However, we found as we reviewed this 10th Chapter of Acts that the context and the Apostle Peter’s interpretation of the vision had nothing to do with food but peoples. Specifically, that the Gentiles can enter into the Covenant previously exclusive to the natural seed of Abraham. Now by the Seed (Jesus the Christ) of Abraham all peoples may enter the Kingdom, Blood Covenant with the Creator through Christ Jesus (the Seed).
Acts 10:28 (KJV)
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Now, let’s look back, just a glance, an overview, at the Levitical food laws.
Leviticus 11:1-3 (KJV)
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.
Leviticus 11:9-10 (KJV)
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
To name a few, horses, rabbits, dogs, pigs, lobster, clams and so on would be forbidden foods. Are they forbidden today? Let’s consider the following Scripture.
Romans 14:1-6 (KJV)
1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
We see here we are to be sensitive to the beliefs, faith, of our brothers/sisters in Christ. Let’s not be in each other’s faces with our beliefs when Scripture is clear that God accepts both and the disrespectful one is the transgressor. If the person you are eating with doesn’t believe one should eat pork don’t order a BLT!
Romans 14:17-23 (KJV)
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
Did you notice the phrase “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another”? If your faith says a certain thing is permissible or not let’s not flaunt it and be in the face of our brother/sister. I heard a man recently teaching about love (agape) over knowledge. Perhaps you or I have a certain knowledge that this or that is acceptable in the sight of God for us to do however, if our brother/sister is present who believes otherwise lets express love for our brother/sister over knowledge. Being right does not supersede loving others.
Lord willing, I will be back in two weeks with fresh nuggets from the Throne of God. Next week is a special teaching.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
