Now, let’s shift our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Today I am dealing with the fruit of our spirit called temperance. Temperance simply means self-control in the broadest sense, not just the mind like 2 Timothy 1:7 but our will and emotions as well. As you are well aware this is easier said than done, it’s an all-day job. This would also include choosing to avoid excess in things like eating for example. You know, we can go in the ditch with anything on one side or the other. One side might be excess restriction and the other ditch is walking in excess, over indulgence. For example, with regard to diet one ditch might be maintains a weight of 90 lbs. and a size 0-2 dress but the other ditch is eating with abandon and weighing 300 lbs. In the following passage listen and see the central role that temperance plays in our fruitfulness for the Kingdom of God.
2 Peter 1:5-8 (KJV)
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
All of these Godly attributes which we are to have in abundance are hard on our flesh, the unrenewed portion of our mind. What about those that like to talk and talk much about everything including other people?
Proverbs 10:19 (KJV)
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Let’s be very careful how we run our mouths, let every word be God (Holy Spirit) filtered. Do you suppose the following verse is a good one to observe and requires temperance.
Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Many times, we don’t need to answer, and many times people do not need or want our two cents worth. If the words we are about to speak are not helpful, encouraging, comforting, or buildup perhaps we should have the speech of silence.
Lord willing, I will pick up with more Golden Nuggets from the Throne on the 22nd, next week is The Feast of Trumpets.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
