GOOD TIDINGS

INDIANA STATEHOUSE
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our empowering study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. O how wonderful the Holy Scriptures are and to know they are reliable for our lives now and for eternity. Everything else is a facade. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to expand the reach of the Truth beyond our reach alone. The featured picture today is of the Statehouse in Indiana and is to remind us to pray for all who are in authority, those in government and all others in positions of authority.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (PassionNTPsa)
1 Most of all, I’m writing to encourage you to pray with gratitude to God. Pray for all men with all forms of prayers and requests as you intercede with intense passion.
2 And pray for every political leader and representative, so that we would be able to live tranquil, undisturbed lives, as we worship the awe-inspiring God with pure hearts.
3 It is pleasing to our Savior-God to pray for them.
Not only are we to pray earnestly for all those in authority but we are to honor and obey them in all things that do not violate the commands of God.
Titus 3:1 (KJV)
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 40:9-11 (KJV)
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
What a wonderful passage of Scripture and I don’t think can be mistaken for anything but Messianic descriptions. Certainly, the very best of “good tidings” have come out of Jerusalem. Jesus was not born in Jerusalem but that is where His Blood was shed, His body was broken, He overcame Hell and death, and the Resurrection took place! Life, eternal life, is in the shed Blood, His body was broken that ours need not be, He paid the price of Hell and death so we have no place there, and the Resurrection awaits us. Can someone think of any better “good tidings”? Let’s remember what “the angel” said on the night of our Saviors birth.
Luke 2:10-11 (KJV)
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Let’s take a moment to look at verse eleven above before I end for today. First let’s deal with the word “Saviour”. This is the old English spelling for the word “Savior”. The word Saviour from the Greek is transliterated as sōtēr meaning a deliverer according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This is taken from the Greek root word transliterated sōzō meaning to save, deliver, protect, heal, preserve, save, cause to do well, and be (make) whole according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Is this “good tidings” or what? Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior! As we go further in the same verse, we find the word “Christ”. This is the Greek word transliterated to English as Christos meaning anointed, the Messiah, or as an epithet of Jesus according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Jesus is the Messiah, and He is the Anointed One. Finally, let’s deal with the word “Lord”. This is the Greek word transliterated to English as kyrios meaning the One supreme in authority according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
As I have pointed out many times, having authority and having control are two far different things. Any parent knows this. Jesus is the King of kings (you and me) and He makes His will known through the Word of God, and the witness of the Holy Spirit within but He does not make us do anything. When was the last time He took you by the nap of the neck and marched you off to Church. The idea that God is in control of our lives is a terrible lie of Satan and religion. He will only exercise as much control as we will give Him. There are many things that God does control but the individual decisions of our lives is not one of them. If He were in control all of the “ifs” and “you choose” would have to be removed from Scripture. Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
