PASSOVER – THE DAY JESUS DIED FOR ME

Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus and welcome to this special teaching today concerning Passover. Today is the 14th of Nisan, the Day of Passover starting at approximately 6 pm this evening and is one of the Feasts commanded of the Lord. As I prepare to move forward in this study, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to expand our reach with the Truth, the gospel. Thank you for sharing. This is a day for commemorating the first Passover observed in ancient Egypt by the Israelite’s. It is also the day that our Passover, Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, hung on the Cross. This is the day He died for me! Let’s thoughtfully and thankfully take some time and review this wonderful redemption account without which we would be without hope, ravaged at will by the devil, and then burn in Hell forever. Notice the instructions God gives Moses and Aaron concerning the Passover Lamb.
Exodus 12:5-6 (KJV)
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
You may recall that the lamb to be sacrificed on this first and subsequent Passovers was to be removed from the flock on the tenth of Nisan which was the 1st of April on our Gregorian Calendar this year. Later in Leviticus twenty-three Passover become one of the Feasts of the Lord to memorialize their salvation from Egypt and our salvation from the world, the kingdom of darkness. There were prior Passovers which pointed to the Exodus Passover and beyond to the Cross. These started in the Garden of Eden on the Day of Sin and Death. The Passover sacrifice of the unblemished male lamb (ram) of the first year did not obliterate sin or expunge sin but covered it for a season (one year). In the preceding passage the reference to “a male of the first year” is not saying the ram is one year old but is a first-born male. Jesus was not only the first-born in His natural family but the first One born again spiritually among many brethren (Romans 8:29). You and I are among the “many brethren”. The Blood of the Lamb of God has obliterated sin forever for those who have or will receive Him. Glory be to God! Well, let’s continue with this wonderful redemption Truth in the following passage.
Exodus 12:11-14 (KJV)
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover.
12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
It is important for us to quickly and completely partake of the LORD’S Passover. Our complete redemption cost Him the highest price and brings about a jubilee for us which is a cancellation of all the debt of sin, return of our property (Kingdom of God spiritual and physical), return of our citizenship, and a return to our family (family of God). The Passover of old with animal blood was a temporary setting aside or providing a covering for sin. In the King James Version of the Bible when the word “LORD” is spelled in all capitals upper case it is referring to the One we now call Father. At that time and now, He was Jehovah or Yahweh meaning the eternal self-existent One.
Our Heavenly Father wanted with all that was within Him to redeem His fallen man (sons). There was no one who was up to the job other than God Himself. Enter the Word, who would be named Jesus upon entry into the womb of the Virgin Mary. Those who are in Christ Jesus are all sons but Jesus was the first and unique Son, the last Adam (like Adam before sin), born without a sin nature, lived a sinless life, the only One qualified to take away our sin. The Word, named Jesus, meaning Jehovah saved, shed all that made Him fully God for a season. He then was like other men (Philippians 2:7). The spirit that entered the body prepared for Jesus was the same one that existed for eternity, minus those attributes which distinguish God for all others. Those attributes include being everywhere present, all Powerful, and all knowing. Jesus set these aside and operated as other men by faith, in love, led of the Holy Spirit. He could not pull the God card if pressed what He considered too hard. A sinless man sinned and a sinless man had to pay the price of that sin. A sinless man (Adam) died spiritually and then physically and so did Jesus on the Cross. Jesus became just like Adam to accomplish the redemption, and He is in fact referred to as the last Adam (1 Cor 15:45). We however are not like Adam, we are redeemed from the curse of the Law of Sin and Death, but that is another teaching.
Redemption would cost God His First-born Son and therefore justice demanded the firstborn of Egypt. Egypt is a type and shadow of sin; thus, the people then as now were in bondage to Satan. Pharaoh is a type and shadow of Satan. Just as Pharaoh and his mighty army were completely defeated and drowned in the Red Sea (Blood of Calvary) so have Satan and his armies of demons been thoroughly defeated by the Blood of Jesus and the Word of God (Revelation 12:11). As instructed by God the blood of the unblemished lamb was placed that day around the door of the house and the death angel could not enter neither could he touch their livestock (their stuff). The devil has to pass over us as well when he sees the Blood of Jesus unless we invite him in. The Feast of the Lord called Passover is to be celebrated, it is to be a memorial forever. We, the Church memorialize, remember, the death of our Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus with the Communion Table?
Luke 22:17-20 (KJV)
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Lord willing, I will resume our study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah tomorrow.
