Good morning or good day dear saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. As we prepare to plunge into our study, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible. Also, don’t forget that I have published several books which would make wonderful Christmas presents, order through Amazon (3 formats available) or our website for the softcover book format only. The links are at the end of the teaching. The featured picture was taken several years ago on a wonderful fall trip to Maine.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 48:9-13 (AMP)
9 For My name’s sake I defer My anger, and for the sake of My praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried and chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
11 For My own sake, for My own sake, I do it [I refrain and do not utterly destroy you]; for why should I permit My name to be polluted and profaned [which it would be if the Lord completely destroyed His chosen people]? And I will not give My glory to another [by permitting the worshipers of idols to triumph over you].
12 Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel, My called [ones]: I am He; I am the First, I also am the Last.
13 Yes, My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand has spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together [to execute My decrees].
I will be picking up today with verse eleven and we will look at it in a couple of other Bible translations. First, God tells us that He is not going to violate His character, His reputation, His Word to be sullied by acting rashly towards this rebellious people. He also says that He is not going to share His glory with idols or people. First the NIV which is a balance of word for word with thought for thought translation.
Isaiah 48:11 (NIV)
11 For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.
Now the Message Bible which is a paraphrase.
Isaiah 48:11 (MSG)
11 Out of myself, simply because of who I am, I do what I do. I have my reputation to keep up. I’m not playing second fiddle to either gods or people.
What is the glory of God? I will let the Lord Himself tell you.
Exodus 33:17-19 (KJV)
17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
Moses asked to see the glory of God and God said I will show you, my goodness. The glory of God is the manifested for all to see goodness of God. He is saying that He will not let a mortal person or an idol take credit for His manifested goodness. Dear ones we must be very careful to distinguish to ourselves and all others what is ours and what is Gods’. For example, you pray for brother or sister X and they are healed by God. We are to give all glory, attribute all of that manifested goodness to God. We are not to puff out our chests declaring that we were the one to pray for them. If you enjoy shutting the door to the glory of God and opening it to the demons, have at it.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
