Good morning or good day dear saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. As we prepare to plunge into our study, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible. I thought, if you guys in Maine don’t have snow yet this would help you to start adjusting your thinking to the reality just ahead. We are so thankful that snow is rare here in San Antonio, Texas.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 48:9-13 (AMP)
9 For My name’s sake I defer My anger, and for the sake of My praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried and chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
11 For My own sake, for My own sake, I do it [I refrain and do not utterly destroy you]; for why should I permit My name to be polluted and profaned [which it would be if the Lord completely destroyed His chosen people]? And I will not give My glory to another [by permitting the worshipers of idols to triumph over you].
12 Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel, My called [ones]: I am He; I am the First, I also am the Last.
13 Yes, My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand has spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together [to execute My decrees].
As we move into verse twelve, I want to make a final comment about verse eleven. Notice that last phrase in the Amplified Bible “[by permitting the worshipers of idols to triumph over you]”. Notice this is in brackets, in the Amplified Bible. Be aware this wording is not in the oldest manuscripts used for translation but is added by the translators. Also, anything in parentheses is not in the oldest manuscripts used for translation but is supported by context. It is not the will of God ever for idol worshippers to triumph over His people at any time. However, He has had no choice when His people choose another way, other gods. Before any of us get too high and mighty, let me ask do, or have idol worshippers triumphed over you? Have people in the world, all of which are idol worshippers, ever triumphed over you, controlled your life? How does this happen? Willful ignorance, leaning on a sacred cow (traditions of men and the doctrine of demons), deception of the devils, or being led away in the lust of our flesh, our eye, or our pride. None of these are acceptable by the way.
This brings us into verse twelve. Does this language sound familiar? It is certainly Messianic. Let’s listen to Jesus say these very Words again.
Revelation 1:8 (KJV)
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV)
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
