REDEEMER
Video link: https://youtu.be/gq1xKYm39vI
Greetings dear and precious saints of the Most High God, brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome back to our study of the marvelous Book of Isaiah. The featured picture today is of an old Church building in the State of Minnesota. The purpose for this series of Church building pictures is to remind each one of us to pray for the Church (not the building), the body of Christ. Thank you for your introspection and your intercession. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 59:19-21 (NASB)
19 So they will fear the name of the LORD from the west And His glory from the rising of the sun, For He will come like a rushing stream Which the wind of the LORD drives.
20 “A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the LORD.
21 “As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the LORD, “from now and forever.”
Today we will be looking at verse twenty and zeroing in on “A Redeemer”. Our text is of course speaking of the coming Messiah, Jesus. Before that there was a type and shadow in the account of Boaz and Ruth. Boaz was a Hebrew of the tribe of Judah and Ruth was a Moabitess. Ruth was a descendant of an incestuous relationship.
Genesis 19:36-38 (KJV)
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
None the less she is in the lineage of Christ.
Matthew 1:5-6 (KJV)
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
Now let’s focus in a little tighter on the phrase from our text “A Redeemer will come to Zion”. Now, looking at the word “Redeemer”. It is capitalized referring to deity, specifically the coming Messiah, Jesus, the Christ. This word transliterated from Hebrew to English means to redeem (according to the Oriental law of kinship), i.e. to be the next of kin (and as such to buy back a relative’s property, marry his widow according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. All of this occurred in the account of Ruth and Boaz. From this we get the idea of the kinsman redeemer. Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer and Boaz was Ruth’s kinsman redeemer a foreshadowing of Christ.
Ruth 2:1 (KJV)
1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
Ruth’s husband Mahlon, a Hebrew, died and she was a widow. Naomi was her mother-in-law and her husband Elimelech died. When Naomi decided to return to Israel Ruth elected to go with her and make her people hers and her God hers as well.
Ruth 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
