ISRAEL – A CITY THAT IS COMPACT TOGETHER
Wednesday – October 11, 2017

What a beautiful picture of Jerusalem above and Jerusalem below. As you know one of the things that God has asked this ministry to do is highlight the need to honor Israel. In other words, we are not just to honor Israel ourselves with prayer and the carnel but we are to educate others of the command of God to do likewise. Now, let’s take a couple of minutes to thoughtfully read the Scripture the Lord led me to for this teaching.
Psalm 122:1-9 (KJV)
1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
This is a beautiful Psalm and I suspect familiar to a good number of readers. This Psalm is a Davidic song of ascents meaning that this was sung by the Jews going up to Jerusalem for the various Feasts of the Lord (Holy Days). For some of the inhabitants of Israel this could easily have been a multiday journey just to get to Jerusalem say nothing of the length of the Feast and then the journey home. They took the commands and the Word of God very seriously. These folks had to travel to Jerusalem to be in the presence of God and see the visible evidence over the Temple, over the Most Holy Place. They considered this a great honor and privilege. Since Calvary, those who accept Jesus as Lord abide in the Most Holy Place 24/7 and are seemingly oblivious to this wonderful privilege, honor, and reality.
Look at verse two and notice the phrase “Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.” This makes sense since they are on their way to Jerusalem. Jerusalem is uphill from all other places in Israel thus the title ‘Song of Ascents”. Back to verse two, most other translations of the Bible either translate the first half of the verse as our feet are standing or our feet have been standing. Interesting, calling things that be not as though they are, a thing called faith. They learned this from Abraham who called things that be not as though they were just like God. Abraham had faith to enter into Blood Covenant with God, that Covenant brought the Messiah, Christ Jesus, becoming the father of all we believe or have faith.
Romans 4:11 (KJV)
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
Notice in Psalm 122:3 the phrase “Jerusalem…is compact together”. The city name Jerusalem is pleural in the Hebrew meaning at least two Jerusalems. The word compact means joined or coupled together. Thus the name of this teaching and the prior reference to Jerusalem above, the Heavenly Jerusalem, and Jerusalem below, the physical earthly Jerusalem. Jerusalem above is the abode of God or what we commonly refer to as Heaven, the third heaven. I think it is common for us to think that Heaven is light years away just beyond the far reaches of creation which is said to be expanding at the speed of light. However, it is much more likely that Heaven, another realm, is just above earthly Jerusalem. Just think of Jacob’s ladder and when Stephen looked into Heaven.
As we come to the sixth verse and following we receive the command to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the prosperity of those who love Jerusalem. Then we are even given the words of what we are to pray. If you have never prayed for Jerusalem and those who love Jerusalem your first prayer would be a decree something like this: Father in the name of Jesus I declare the peace of Jerusalem and the prosperity of those who love Jerusalem, I declare peace with the walls and prosperity within the palaces of Jesusalem and those who love Jerusalem. Then following this we say thank you Father for the peace of Jerusalem and the prosperity of those who love Jerusalem, thank you Father for peace within the walls and prosperity within the palaces of Jerusalem and those who love Jerusalem. If you are doing this with a sincere heart in faith there will be peace with your walls and prosperity within your palace. Don’t tear down your walls or scuttle your dreams of a palace with unbelief.
