SIN UNTO DEATH
Friday – October 27, 2017

Once again let us welcome Adam and Eve to The Three Minute Word, they are in our featured picture. Today I am going to move forward in our terrific Bible Study taken from the wonderful Book of Hebrews. We are back to sin that leads to death with no way back to God. If anyone has a question about serving God read yesterday’s Three Minute Word. Each one of us has a Hell to shun and a Heaven to embrace. Ladies and gentlemen God takes this sin thing extremely (English inadequate) serious and the cost was beyond any human calculation to restore all things. God was determined to have a family and at a horrendous cost He now has one. We must view sin through the same lens that our Heavenly Father sees sin, an atrocious act that required that God pay the penalty (for our sin). Now let us turn to our primary text which is frightening on the surface. But beneath the surface a wonderful act of mercy and warning by the One whose kindness toward us eclipses anything mankind can imagine separate from the mind of Christ.
Hebrews 6:4-6 (KJV)
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
This means exactly what you think it means. The person being talked about here is one who was saved, filled with the Holy Ghost, functioned in the gifts of the Spirit, had the Blessing operating in their life and then through a series of small steps turns from the ways of God and finally gives full loyalty to the devil. I recently visited this topic in the October 6, 2017 afternoon edition concerning the Church. You might want to review it. Attaining to this awful place is not easy but some have done it and are eternally lost. Our prayers are of no avail, though we may cry with many tears that also will be of no avail. Blasphemy (total rejection) of the Holy Ghost is a place from which one cannot recover. I am not talking about a little frustration some afternoon, I am talking about a full turning away that is public and puts the Holy Spirit to an open shame even saying the things they did were of the devil. Look at what the Apostle John by the unction of the Holy Spirit has to say to us.
1 John 5:16 (KJV)
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
Persons who sin unto this death (spiritual death) we are not even to pray (intercede) for them. This is not the run of the mill backslider who perhaps was never really that committed anyway, this is the person through whom the power of God flowed as a river to many. This is not the prominent preacher who is found at Motel 6 (nothing against Motel 6) in sexual acts or found to be stealing from or using Church assets inappropriately. This is a person who has publicly made it known they are completely turned from God, renounced their citizenship in the Kingdom of God if you will. Let us continue to read on in our primary text.
Hebrews 6:7-9 (KJV)
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
The rain is falling, the Word of God is just as available, just as abundant but we have two very different fields, one is bringing forth wonderful harvests the other thorns and briers. One receives the blessing of God the other is burned. Our writer of Hebrews begins a transition with an encouraging word and as we will see next week starts bragging on the character of our God. With all of this in mind let us consider the following Words of Jesus.
Matthew 5:13 (KJV)
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Looks like a double whammy to me. Cast out of the Kingdom of God forever and disrespected by the world. Selah.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
