THE CHURCH AND HALLOWEEN

Once again the annual cycle has passed and it is back to Halloween. I do not comment on this observance each year because it is not worthy of mention. Unfortunately, the people of the Church, people who say they are born again are celebrating Halloween with their kids. You would think that even the most untrained eye could tell that the images of Halloween are evil like the picture above. Why would we think it advisable to celebrate a group of evil personalities, death, walking dead people, so-called ghosts, with the sole goal of inducing fear on some level. Go from house to house and threaten people if they do not give a treat of candy (extorting candy). What are we teaching our children, what images and ideas are being instilled by us the parents and all the media associated with Halloween. I hope you have figured out by now that we must turn our backs on Halloween and give it no place at our house. Meditate on the following Scripture.
2 Chronicles 33:6 (KJV)
6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
There are many lies that parents foist upon their children and society in general reinforces these lies. What is wrong with us? What about Santa Claus, the Tooth fairy, and the Easter Bunny? Let us stop lying to our children. People interestingly defend these lies because they don’t want to deprive their children of the fun associated with the wonder of Santa and so on. What about the far exceeding wonder of Christ and His Resurrection? Like we don’t have plenty of reason to have joy and thanksgiving, even fun at Christmas, Easter, and with the loss of our children’s teeth. What does all this deception teach our children and say about our society. No wonder politicians and other think it is fine to “parse” their words. The Almighty God who changes not told mankind a long time ago to not bear false witness. One might say, “O it is innocent fun”. Really? Well, there is a truckload of fun going on everywhere including our government and lies of ignorance in the Church. This is a major problem.
Back to Halloween. It is quite difficult to put a real handle on the origins of Halloween. In any event it is ancient. Some say it had Christian origins other say no, was pagan from the get go. Folks focus on the word itself indictating it means holy eve or all saints eve. They indicate that it started as a celebration of particularly notable Christians that had gone on before much like we celebrate say George Washington. If that be the case it has certainly been perverted beyond recognition. This Holiday had its origins in Europe, the British Isles and Irish Isles, in the times of the Celtics and druids. The druids were the priests of the Celtics. Animal sacrifice was apparently common and human sacrifice or suicide was not uncommon. This is an awful (dreadful, terrible, appalling, and horrible) Holiday which we must not countenance at all. It is not innocent fun but a bowing to the forces of evil who steal, kill, destroy and want to see us in Hell for eternity.
