THE FLESH

John 1:29 (KJV)
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study taken from the Book of Hebrews. What a great study and revelation for us and them to whom it was originally written. The primary or first target of this teaching was the Hebrew peoples, those who were practicing Judaism. Of course, it is written for all, for us, but first unto them who needed to understand the need to have and ratify a New Blood Covenant, and the need of a New Priesthood. The Word who was with God and was God was made flesh and dwelt among us laying aside the attributes of God becoming a human being. He was conceived and born with the breath of life in Him and the Spirit of the Word, His soul (mind) and His body learned and grew as other men. Now, let us review our primary text as we move forward with our study.
Hebrews 9:13-17 (KJV)
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
The sacrifice and the sprinkling of the blood of these innocent animals sanctified the people for a season, it atoned or covered the sin so that God could overlook it. He could only do this because when He saw the sacrifice of these innocent animals and the application of their blood to the Mercy Seat it was a reminder of the eternal permanent redemption to come. The blood of those innocent animals ratified the First Covenant for a year however the Blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, ratified the Second Covenant for eternity. To be sanctified is to be made holy, pure, and blameless. The word ‘purifying’ in the thirteen verse means to cleanse or sweep clean.
The word ‘flesh’ here has to do with more than the human body. In short, the flesh in Scripture refers to the human body and the unrenewed portion (corrupt) of the mind. Our brain is a part of the human body, it is of the earth, and our mind is a part of our spirit or soul man and it is of Heaven. When I say our mind is of Heaven, it is more accurate to say that our mind (our whole soul) is of God. We are in His image which is of like kind and we are in His likeness which is to function like Him. There seems to be this idea in Christendom that we who are saved and filled with the Holy Ghost and Power are as different from God as lions and geese. That is a demonic lie!!! We are not God, we are not of ourselves all knowing, all powerful, or all places present but we are intimate with the One who is and whatever is needed in those realms to do our assignment He will provide. You and I are not worms in the dirt hanging on for dear life!!
Let’s look at Adam and Eve and what happened on the Day of Sin. You will find this in the first six verses of Genesis chapter three. Adam was made in the image and likeness of God (Jehovah, Word, Spirit) therefore made of the same stuff that God is made of. God then made a body of the dust of the earth which was to house this man in the image and likeness of God. Subsequently, Eve was fashioned from Adam, spirit, soul, and body. The soul of Adam which came from God and is comprised of the spirit and soul. The body of Adam came from the earth and the body of Eve came from the body of Adam therefore from the earth just as our bodies are from the earth. When I say of the earth I am saying our bodies are made of the elements which are found in the earth. The soul (spirit and soul [mind]) is comprised of the elements found in God, found in Heaven.
Sin is consummated in the physical body, and it is born in the mind. So, there is a corrupt idea that is introduced, we fail to identify it as such and subsequently act upon it. In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve had been given instructions by God not to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Serpent comes along and introduces corrupt ideas which are ideas contrary to the Word of God. Unfortunately, they chose to elevate or leave those ideas in a high place above the Word of God. They acted on those ideas and sin was born and the consequences of sin which is death entered mankind, entered the earth. Consider the following passage as I end for today.
James 1:13-16 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
