HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART FIFTEEN
Sunday – June 17, 2018, Tamuz 4, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study focused on Health, Healing, and Miracles in the ministry of Jesus. Jesus told us that our life, our ministry, was to be not only like His but that we would do greater things. Now, don’t start with the “yeah buts” that is why we, the Church are where we are today. Today we will be looking at the woman with a hemorrhage or more commonly referred to as having an issue of blood. As you know this wonderful testimony now a part of the Word of God is intertwined with the testimony of Jairus’s daughter. Faith comes or is built by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Each of us must determine right now that we are going to hear, receive, and implement the Word of God in our lives to be more like Him. This process happens on purpose and by faith with the right motivations (love). Now, let’s pick up this testimony in Matthew.
Matthew 9:20-22 (KJV)
20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Although it is not explicitly in the plural in this text the phrase “For she said” is in the active voice indicating an ongoing saying or repeating. What she is saying is her faith statement which is “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole” There was no “I sure hope so” attached here but a certainty that if she can just touch Him her healing is a done deal. And so, it was. When she touched His garment, her faith ignited or drew upon His Anointing and the Power of God flowed making her whole. A point that is important for us to distinguish here is that she had to find someone with the Anointing in order to be healed. You and I on the other hand if we are saved and filled with the Holy Spirit are Anointed and our faith can trigger the Anointing (Holy Spirit and Power) within and upon us and bring our healing and maintain our health. It is important that we examine ourselves asking where is my faith, and what is my faith in? This woman set the parameters for her healing (touching His garment) and when that was satisfied her faith said that she would be not just be healed but made whole. Indeed, we see that her faith made her whole, Jesus confirmed it. Healing is a removal of the affliction but wholeness is full restoration of her body, finances, and so on.
In our text above the word “whole” is Greek transliterated to English as sōzō according to the Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word is translated in the English text 93 times as ‘save’, 9 times as ‘make whole’, 3 times as ‘heal’, and 2 times as ‘be whole’. This lady was not born again at this time but she received the same benefits that are available to us at salvation by her faith. All that the curse had stolen from her with regard to this illness was restored from that very hour. Before we move on to the Gospel of Mark let me draw our attention to the word “daughter”. The use of this word tells us that this woman was a Jew or Hebrew (daughter of Abraham). Now on to Mark.
Mark 5:25-34 (KJV)
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Mark adds a little more information about the duration of the disease, that she had seen many doctors, was broke financially, and was getting worse. All of this was set right by faith and the Anointing in a moments time. Her body was healed instantly and all the rest was restored over time. Verse thirty-four is interesting. The first use of the word “whole” is sōzō which has to do with being saved from something, in this case a debilitating illness that was robbing her of everything and soon would claim her life. Then we see Jesus tell her to go in peace. This means to go in health, welfare, prosperity, and every kind of good according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. When faith meets the Anointing nothing but wonderful takes place. The second use of the word “whole” is a different word than the first word translated as “whole”. This word is like saying go in 100% health and 0% sickness. This same wonderful event can be found in Luke 8:43-48 but I am going to focus on verse forty-six which is the same as Mark 5:30 with regard to the word “touched”.
Luke 8:46 (KJV)
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
Mark 5:30 (KJV)
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
This word touched is not a casual touching such as brushing by someone or even patting their back or shoulder. This word means to connect, bind, to apply oneself to, or to touch. It refers to such handling of an object as to exert a modifying influence upon it or upon oneself according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. She connected, she applied herself for sure and brought about a modifying influence, causing the Anointing, dynamis power to flow. Virtue in this case is the Power of the Holy Spirit. When unwavering faith connects with the Anointing there will be a dynamic change for the good.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
3 John 1:2 (HCSB)
2 Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.
