JESUS THE MEDIATOR

Greeting and a big welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. Let me make one point before I proceed further which is that faith is acquired on purpose. We cannot receive faith by having someone pray for us. We cannot receive or build faith by simply reading Scripture. We must do more than just hear the Word of God physically, we must hear the Word of God with spiritual ears. We must purpose in our heart that we highly value the Word of God and we will guard it far above all things, all words. The Book of James tells us that faith without works is dead so we see that faith cannot just be confessed or declared it must be acted upon. Now, let’s delve into today’s Bible lesson by first reading aloud the primary text from the Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 12:22-24 (KJV)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Today I will pick up with verse twenty-four, in Scripture the number twenty-four is the number of the Priesthood. Sure enough, that is exactly what our verse is talking about. Jesus is the mediator of this new covenant. A mediator is one who stands between two parties. In this case we are on one side, the Father is on the other, and Jesus is in the middle speaking to the Father for us and speaking to us from the Father. A mediator is also called a go-between, an intermediary, arbitrator, negotiator, moderator, or intercessor according to the Thesaurus. Recall that at the very initiation of this “new covenant” Jesus was there with the Eternal Spirit (Holy Spirit) and the Father made covenant with Him and with Abraham that same day (Genesis 15). God had already told Abram that all of mankind would be blessed through his seed (singular). That Seed was the coming Messiah, Christ Jesus. All who will Covenant with Christ Jesus receive the blessing of Abraham which is the promised Holy Spirit. Let’s look at some of the Words of Jesus.
John 12:24 (KJV)
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Jesus has certainly brought forth much fruit, you and I are a part of that fruit, that He is presenting to the Father with much joy. I don’t know if you have noticed the Biblical Numerology of the preceding verse but it is wonderful. John is the fourth book of the New Testament and four is the number of authority and power. Twelve is the number of God’s perfect government (kings). And, twenty-four is the number of priesthood. Jesus took our sin at Calvary reversing the curse returning authority and power to mankind making us kings and priests in the earth and in Heaven. How wonderful is our God? He is wonderful beyond human language!
What is the “New Covenant”? It is common for us, for Christians, to think of the New Testament (Covenant) as the last twenty-seven books of the Bible and the first thirty-nine are the Old Testament. All of recorded Scripture at the time constituted the Old Covenant and all of recorded Scripture at this time constitutes the New Covenant or Testament. This New Covenant includes all of what is commonly referred to as the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The major and I mean major difference is that the Old Covenant was ratified year by year with innocent animal but this New Covenant (all of Scripture) is ratified by the eternal Blood of Jesus one time for all time. Many wonderful things could only come by the blood of an innocent man and these include eternal life, the total obliteration of sin, the return of dominion or authority over the earth, the return of the Blessing (Holy Spirit and Power), and the return of an incorruptible body. Let me reiterate that the major differences, all the difference, is in the difference of an innocent animals’ blood and that of a sinless man, Christ Jesus. Jesus did not enter the earth with the corruption of sin as did all other persons after the sin of Adam.
Romans 5:19 (KJV)
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
The limited Old Covenant was sealed or ratified year after year with innocent animal blood which could not take away sin nor give mankind the benefits I listed above. However, the New Covenant is ratified with the Blood of Christ Jesus which took away the sins of the world. That Blood was offered once for all time for all sin. The only sin that keeps a man or a woman out of the Kingdom of God today is that of rejecting the precious Blood of Jesus. Abel was the first person killed for the cause of righteousness however his blood was that of a fallen man and therefore could neither atone or redeem anyone including himself. But the Blood of Jesus was that of a sinless man. This sinless Blood provided the life that man desperately needed. A loving God (obedient to His own Word) provided that Blood Himself. Jesus our mediator stands between us and the Father and insures that when the accuser comes (which is continuous) that justice is done according to all the Word of God. When we are wrong He insures not only justice but mercy and when we are right He ensures that we are protected.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
