IS GOD IN IT?

Greetings dear children of God and welcome back to this enlightening and empowering study of the Bible Book of Haggai. It is enlightening if we have eyes to see and ears to hear. Are we reading today to understand and do? Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text reading out loud.
Haggai 1:12-15 (KJV)
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
13 Then spake Haggai the LORD’S messenger in the LORD’S message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.
14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
You recall that the Lord with meet with Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Tabernacle in the wilderness face to face as two friends. The Lord is giving direction to move on and Moses says if you aren’t going, we’re not going (my paraphrase).
Exodus 33:14-16 (KJV)
14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
Same for us, for me, today, if God isn’t in it, I don’t want to be in it either. Doing things in our own strength for children of God is a fool’s errand. This brings to an interesting consideration in the fourteenth verse. What about God stirring up the spirit of these Old Testament peoples? We are said to be three-part beings, spirit, soul, and body. The spirit and soul are not of the material world (3rd Dimension) but of the spirit world (4th Dimension). In fallen man, then and now, the spirit as differentiated from the soul (mind, will, emotions) and is dead, non-operative. However, the soul also part of the spirit man is alive and operative. Let’s look at these verses in The Living Bible which is a more likely accurate way to understand the verses.
Haggai 1:13-14 (TLB)
13 Then the Lord told them (again sending the message through Haggai, his messenger), “I am with you; I will bless you.”
14 And the Lord gave them a desire to rebuild his Temple; so they all gathered in early September of the second year of King Darius’ reign and volunteered their help.
Following this, work began in earnest on the House of the Lord. You come near to Him and He will come near to you (James 4:8). One final thing of interest and that is the date in the fifteenth verse. This is Elul 24 which is September 27, 2024 on our Gregorian Calendar this year. The Jews call this the month of repentance, of mercy, and forgiveness. See how that meshes with the content of the first chapter of Haggai.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here with our study of Haggai next Saturday. The Lord is good, He is not the source of our problems, and He cannot lie!
