THE WORD CLEANSES

Greetings precious saints of God, my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, sons of God and welcome back to this uplifting study of 1st John. John the Apostle of love by the unction of the Holy Spirit left us with some wonderful Scripture for our instruction and edification. The Lord is so good. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today continuing to read out loud and listening with the intent to understand and do. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes and ears.
1 John 3:3-6 (KJV)
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
The Apostle John tells us that if we have “this hope” we will purify ourselves to be like Him. This hope is the knowledge that we are the sons of God, the astonishing love that God (all three persons) has for us all, and that we will see Him and be like Him one day. O what a day dear ones! Did you notice whose responsibility for us to become pure? We are responsible, He does not and will not do it for us. This is not unlike the raising of children, we teach our children to stand on their own two feet, to be moral (according to the Word of God) productive citizens. We teach and live it before them and then the ball is in their court to do. It is exactly the same in the Kingdom of God. To purify has to do with sanctification (being set apart for His use), clean (from sin), innocent, modest, perfect (mature), holy, and chaste according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Listen to the Apostle Paul.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NASB)
1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
The Apostle Paul makes sure that we understand this involves the flesh and the spirit. The flesh is this mortal body and the unrenewed mind. The spirit is our spirit man and our renewed mind. These things are our responsibility and we are well able. That is not to say that the Holy Spirit will not help but He will not do it for us. How do we do this. We do this by the washing, the cleansing of the Word of God.
Ephesians 5:25-27 (KJV)
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
The Anointed One, the Messiah, cleanses His bride, us the Church with the Word of God. Again, just hearing the Word of God does not bring cleansing. It is the Word of God that we receive, prove, believe, doubt not, and implement into our lives. Remember what the Lord told Joshua.
Joshua 1:8-9 (KJV)
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Who was making their way prosperous and full of success? How? Filling our thought life and our mouth with His Book.
