Greetings dear and precious saints of God, coheirs with Christ Jesus, kings and priests in the Kingdom of God forever and ever. Welcome back to this instructive and empowering Bible Study of the Book of Haggai. Now, let’s turn to our primary Bible text reading out loud.
Haggai 2:20-23 (KJV)
20 And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;
22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
23 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
In our primary Bible text, we find the Word of the Lord (Jesus) coming to the Prophet Haggai twice on the same day. Before we venture into this let’s revisit for a moment the previous two verses.
Haggai 2:18-19 (MSG)
18 “ ‘Now think ahead from this same date—this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Think ahead from when the Temple rebuilding was launched.
19 Has anything in your fields—vine, fig tree, pomegranate, olive tree—failed to flourish? From now on you can count on a blessing.’ “
I asked the question; will this just automatically happen. No! A correction must come to God’s people, THEY must make a correction, reordering priorities starting in their hearts (thought life) and getting expressed out in words and actions. Remember the admonition for them to consider their ways. What about us?
The concluding verses of this Book are the Lord of Hosts (Jesus, the Word) speaking directly to the Governor of Judah and Jerusalem. He assures Zerubbabel that all those roundabout will fear (shake) him, God’s people in Judah and Jerusalem. The Lord says these Kingdom around you will collapse, I will see to it. He is not overriding the will of those peoples, kingdoms. This is justice. These people were a part of the judgment against Judah but they overstepped. It would be like someone sentenced to a year in jail but kept two years. An injustice occurred and now justice is rendered concerning those who committed the injustice. Please don’t think of this like God using the devils to do His dirty work. If loosed the Devil and his hoards will kill everyone on the planet. Why haven’t they? The mercy and love of God. But if God moves His Hand a bit the demons have access to some extent. The actions of the people determine the actions dictated by the Laws of God.
The Lord of Hosts tells Zerubbabel that He is making him a signet which means he is marked as God’s man. The Lord also said that Zerubbabel was chosen meaning he had been tried and found faithful.
This concludes our study of this wonderful Book of Haggai.
Lord willing, I will pick up with more fresh revelation from the Throne next Saturday. The Lord is good, He is not the source of our problems, and He cannot lie!
