NOW THE TITHE

Once again, we will be diving into this really popular topic of offerings (sarcasm) but first let’s review our anchor Scripture.
Nehemiah 12:44 (KJV)
44 And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
You will recall that yesterday we ended with a lengthy passage from Deuteronomy chapter twenty-six which summarized the children of Israel coming out of Egypt. Likewise, we came out of our Egypt, bondage to Satan and the curse, into our Promised Land. Our partaking of the Promised Land is always our choice and is based on knowledge. The Firstfruits Offering commemorates this deliverance from bondage and speaks of Jesus the first born from the dead, both physical but most importantly spiritual death. Before Christ we were in the kingdom of darkness, that kingdom mistreated us, but God brought us out with a mighty Hand and brought us into the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey. As we prepare to move to the tithe remember the following Truth.
Romans 11:16 (KJV)
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
Jesus the Firstfruit of salvation holy and He makes us holy, our Firstfruit Offering to the Lord is made holy and all of our income becomes holy. The Firstfruits Offering is not discretionary, but the amount is between each of us and the Lord.
TAKE HOME CONCERNING THE FIRSTFRUITS OFFERING
- This is the first and the best of our produce. Of course, in todays society, culture, that would be a monetary offering most commonly.
- Giving the Firstfruits Offering is commanded, therefore not discretionary.
- The amount of the offering is between us and God since the income the crop produced varies widely between peoples.
Now, let us move onto the topic of Tithing. The tithe is first mentioned as such in the time of Abram. The word tithe means, a tenth. The tithe is what belongs to God, already. From my teaching of January 22, 2025, “Special Edition – Tithing”, let us review what seems to be the origin of the tithe. I have heard it said that tithing is under the Old Testament and we New Testament believers are not required to tithe. This is a devilish lie of well Biblical proportions. The other lie is that we are not under the law but under grace usually follows right along with that demonic reasoning. One law was done away with by Christ and that is the Law of Sin and Death. When Adam sinned, he died spiritually immediately, and death entered his body. Jesus removed the law of sin and death (Genesis 2:17) therefore we are not under it nor subject to it. We have grace for repentance.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
