Welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and a brand-new Bible Study titled “The Salvation Package”. I was quickened to this topic, this idea, a few weeks ago and asked myself and the Lord what does salvation mean. What does it mean to be saved. It seems to me that a common understanding is that when one is saved, they are going to Heaven not Hell when they die. It seems that the common message conveyed is that when we give our heart to the Lord, we go to Heaven someday, and in the meantime, we are to develop our character to be more like Jesus. Is that all that salvation or being saved means? I believe we will see as we move into this study that salvation is indeed a package with more than one item in the package. Why isn’t the whole message of salvation preached and taught?
As an aside, the image I am using for this teaching should not be taken to represent the entry to Heaven although that is included but entry into the glorious Kingdom of God, of Light at salvation. The glory of God is the goodness of God and nothing speaking of the goodness of God more than the gift of salvation.
One of the first images I got in my mind concerning this topic is the Children of Israel as they crossed the Jordan River and stood on the Promised Land side of the Jordan. As they stood there the whole of the Promised Land is before them. Let’s look at this passage of Scripture. It is a lengthy text but let’s take a look at it and remember your salvation, your entry into the Promised Land was no less miraculous.
Joshua 3:13-17 (KJV)
13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
The Lord provided a miraculous entry into the land but now what they partook of in the land was up to them. This took faith to pass from the wilderness into the Promised Land. In the wilderness they had relative safety but scarcity or just enough and continual uncertainty. Much like us in our wilderness. We entered the Promised Land, the Kingdom of God, by faith as well.
Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Just as the step into the Promised Land, salvation, is a gift but still obtained or accepted by faith so is everything else in the Blood Covenant we entered with God at salvation.
TAKE HOME:
- Salvation, entry into our Promised Land – the Kingdom of God, although a gift of God facilitated by grace, is obtained by faith, faith in God, faith in the promise.
- Which side of the Jordan are you on, have you left the Jordan and taken up your cross (assignment) in the Promised Land?
- Have you considered what is in your salvation package?
