Greetings and welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and our ongoing study of The Salvation Package. Frequently it is taught that we must be saved to go to Heaven and not Hell which is true. But salvation is far more than rescue from the wrath to come and already being experienced by those in Hell. When we declare with our mouth Jesus as Lord and Savior and believe in our hearts (mind) that God the Father raised Him from the dead we are saved (Romans 10:9-10). Our dead spirit man is made alive, and able to commune with God the Holy Spirit who takes up residence with us in the earthly tabernacle.
I will move forward today in our study of The Salvation Package. I am going to deal just a bit with this issue of law and grace. It is common to hear that we are not under the law but under grace. The idea put forward is that the laws enumerated in the Bible Books before the Cross are no longer applicable. But we continue to talk about sin which is transgression of the law.
1 John 3:4 (KJV)
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
If the law was no longer applicable (which it will be eternally) then any discussion of sin is mute. Let’s take a look at the most common Scriptures used to make the statement that we are not under the law, under the curse, but grace. As we look at this remember that grace is a particular characteristic, function, of a person, the Holy Spirit.
Romans 6:12-16 (KJV)
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
The saints before Calvary did not have the Holy Spirit to help them, their spirit man was dead to God and therefore the Holy Spirit was not in them to convict and guide into all righteousness. A primary law that God put in place from the get-go is that of free will, we decide. You can see in the preceding Romans passage that is our choice to follow the flesh in disobedience to the Law, to God, or obey the Law in obedience to God with the help of the Holy Spirit. They, before the Cross, were made, forced, to sin but with a dead spirit alive to God sin was easy and ubiquitous. So what law are we no longer under?
Romans 8:1-3 (KJV)
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Calvary took away the law of sin and death.
Genesis 2:17 (KJV)
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
When Adam/Eve sinned, their spirit died instantly. Just think if Jesus took care of all our sins prior to salvation but didn’t deal with this Law of Sin and Death. With our first sin following salvation we would be instantly dead spiritually without remedy.
TAKE HOME:
- Our salvation package includes all of the benefits and obligations of the Kingdom of God giving us life as God knows life in every respect. Some of these things are pending but we have the earnest (2 Cor 1:22) of the Holy Spirit such as redemption of this natural body.
- Every law but one applies to every person, we have free will to choose the law or choose lawlessness. Praise the Lord we are live to God and have the Holy Spirit to guide us, we submit to (come under) His guidance.
- The Law of Sin and Death is gone, praise the Lord.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
