LIFE AND DEATH ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS

Greetings to one and all and welcome to this teaching on “WHOSE THOUGHTS”. Let me ask a question. Are our thoughts our secrets forever? And whose thoughts are we thinking? Are we thinking the thoughts of our own understanding, the voice of other people’s reasonings plus or minus Godly or demonic influence, demonic voices, or the voice of God. Someone is talking to us constantly. We call this our thought life. Are thoughts harmless? By the way our thoughts are not a secret from God and our thoughts produce fruit. Our thoughts may be a secret for a season from other people and the demons, that is until our words betray our thoughts and the fruit manifests.
We are thinking about something all the time, even in our sleep. We are receiving input to our thought life all day through music, radio, TV, conversations, books, articles of all types (audio, kindle, paper, etc.). Our thoughts can be Godly, neutral, or devilish. Godly thoughts are those in line with Scripture. Neutral thoughts are things like thinking about our grocery list, a task at work and so on. Devilish thoughts are any and all thoughts contrary to Scripture. Yesterday we examined the admonition of Jesus to take heed to how we listen. Among other things today we will be examining his admonition to take heed to what we hear. As we start this study let’s listen to the Lord Jesus.
Mark 4:21-29 (KJV)
21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. (bold added)
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
Verses twenty-one and twenty-two again remind us that there are no secrets, zero, in the sight of God, nor everyone else if we don’t repent of those evil thoughts and change our minds. Judgement Day is coming for us all soon. In verse twenty-three we hear the (I hope) familiar admonition to have ears to hear. Ears to hear are people who came to understand and to do. Then in verse twenty-four we see the command “Take heed what ye hear”. To take heed means to pay attention, to be mindful of what is coming into our ears. What is heard is not to be mindlessly accepted. We may even start repeating it in our mind and with our mouth. An example might be a song our receiving it, humming it, repeating it with our mouth gives it a place and a root is starting. Look dear ones, this is serious stuff. The devils are telling you that this teaching is not serious but is overboard so move on to something more exciting that tickles the ear and emotions. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Where do the words come from? Our thought life! Where did we get the thoughts? Looking back at our text the Master goes on to say again what we studied yesterday in Luke 8:17-18. Whatever you are giving attention to will come to you and will be increased casting out the other side of the coin. If your attention is on the devilish (anything contrary to God) the Word will get progressively squeezed out and vice versa. We will pick up the later part of our text tomorrow, verses 26 through 29.
TAKE HOME:
- There are no secrets in the sight of God.
- Whatever we give attention to will squeeze out the other side of the coin.
- Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Since what comes out the mouth was first in our thoughts, we could say that life and death are in the power of our thoughts.
As the Lord wills, I will resume this teaching tomorrow. The Lord bless and keep you. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
