Welcome dear children of God, brothers and sisters in Christ, to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries. Today we continue our study of the Patriarch Abraham which Scripture describes as the father of us all. This will be by no means a definitive study of Abraham. I will be using only Biblical sources for our learning. We will be reviewing Abraham’s life for it is encouraging for us all to see how God can and does flow in and through imperfect people to accomplish His will. The testimony of Abrahams life is pivotal to the redemption account and the restitution of all things. I am starting this series of teachings kind of from the end then we will see how the glorious end was achieved. I will pick up once again in the Book of Romans. Remember this is where Abraham ended up not where he started. As they say, the making of the sausage can be gruesome but the end result is delightful. I will make comments as we wade through these wonderful Scriptures.
Romans 4:16-22 (KJV)
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Insight: The account of Abraham amplifies the importance of being fully persuaded of the Word of God and acting upon that Word. Faith makes room for Grace, the action of the Holy Spirit on our behalf. There are the natural seed or descendants of Abraham which are the Jews and there are the spiritual seed which are the born-again Christians or Gentiles. So, you see that the Jew and Christian have the same father, Abraham.
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Insight: God not only quickens (makes alive) those who are physically dead but makes alive the spiritually dead who will believe, be fully persuaded, upon Him. When we get to the renaming of Abram in Chapter 17 of Genesis, we will see God calling those things which be not as though they already were. After the renaming so did Abraham call, speak, those things that were not yet visible as though they were. So we must dear ones.
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Insight: Abraham set aside natural hope for there was no hope in the natural and he adopted Bible hope, full trust in the Word of God and so obtained the promised child. Bible hope is not a maybe but an expectation that is certain.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
Insight: Do we consider what we can see around? If Abraham had done that, we might still be waiting for a Messiah. Abraham is 99 years old and Sarah is 90 years old and barren all her life.
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Insight: There came a day when Abraham gave no place to unbelief which is sin and the number one reason, we do not see the promises of God in our lives. This happened when his identity changed, he had a name change. Well, what about you and me we have a new identity and name change in Christ Jesus. Are we walking in it or our old identity?
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Insight: Now, we see a good definition of faith, faith in God, is being fully persuaded of Him and His promises. Being fully persuaded means that what He said is the only possible outcome, it is not one of many options or possible outcomes.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Insight: Righteousness is not something new with the Cross, it has always been a thing for those who worshipped God and did as God commanded. Remember righteousness in this context is first right standing with God and secondly doing all that God commands. Tomorrow we will start the journey that brought the Messiah through Abraham. It is a 25 year plus journey and a little messy in places, but the end result is glorious for all mankind.
TAKE HOME:
- Are you fully persuaded of the Word of God and doing it?
- Are you calling those things which are not yet present in this physical realm as though they are?
- Are you righteous and doing righteousness?
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
