CAN YOU DEFINE A FAMILY?

Greetings dear saints, sons of God and all others joining. Welcome to this enlightening and inspiring study of the Seven Mountains also referred to as pillars or gates. Of the Seven Mountains, thus far we have discussed the Mountain of Religion, Media, Education, Business, Government and the Arts, Entertainment, and Sports Mountain. Today I will plunge into the Family Mountain. This Mountain like all the others, is seriously corrupted. It is my hope that these teachings, all of these teachings, will shock the sleeping into wakefulness and action.
As we delve into this topic of the Family Mountain I want to remind all of the following Bible verse.
Psalm 127:1 (KJV)
1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
What is the foundation for your life and that of your family? Is it built on the Word of God or something else? Is God involved in your life except for on Sunday morning perhaps? Do you consult with Him about everything in your life or just when you come against negative issues? Are we really Kingdom of God seekers first or occasionally? What are we teaching our children?
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
As we move forward let me remind you concerning education. Secular education man occur in or outside of the home, but the parents must be aware of what is being taught in the classroom and that it reflects their Judeo-Christian world view. That does not mean other world views cannot be discussed otherwise how would one defend the Judeo-Christian world view? Spiritual education rests primarily with the parents not the Church. This education must clearly define the moral standards of God.
For just a moment let’s talk about what constitutes a family. Other terms might include nuclear family or family unit. Anything other then these are extended family as related by blood or marriage. When a man and woman get married, they become one flesh and are a family unit.
Genesis 2:24 (KJV)
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Jesus reaffirms this.
Matthew 19:5-6 (KJV)
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Of course, there may be other family units like a single mom or dad and a dependent child or children. Adult children who have left the house are no longer part of that family unit but are a separate family, they are extended family. Other extended family would include each persons parents and other associated blood or marriage relatives. This nuclear family is not to be controlled nor pressured by his or her “family” for they are now extended family. This is vital because ones first obligation is to those in the nuclear or family unit. God is always first and the cord that binds the two.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV)
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
The three-fold cord is the husband, wife, and God with Scripture being the final authority for all in the family unit. All in the family unit includes the children. The hierarchy of the family is God in the number one spot by far for both husband and wife with Scripture being final authority in all things. Next is the husband (male by birth) as the head of the family but only as Christ is the example. This is not an abusive position, a position of lording over, but a position of love (agapē) washing with the Word as Christ does His bride, the Church. The wife (female by birth) is the help meet to the husband which is one ideally suited to come along side. Come along side to accomplish the things God has assigned to him, to them. This is not a one-way street. The husband is a help meet for the wife. He is to help her maximize her calling, ministry, gifts, and talents. Let’s review God’s original intent.
Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
In the following verse we see that Jesus is help meet (succour) to each and every one of us. Jesus is the bridegroom to the Church.
Hebrews 2:18 (KJV)
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
TAKE HOME:
- Who is educating your children and what about you?
- God is the Head of every family, the third cord, and Scripture is the highest authority.
- A family is the nuclear unit of related people by blood or marriage living under one roof, all others are extended family.
