ARE WE WASTING TIME?

Greetings dear saints, sons of God and all others joining. Welcome to this enlightening and inspiring study of the Seven Mountains also referred to as pillars or gates. Of the Seven Mountains, thus far we have discussed the Mountain of Religion, Media, Education, Business, and the Government Mountain. Today I will continue our plunge into the Mountain of Arts, Entertainment, and Sports. This Mountain like all the others, is seriously corrupted. It is my hope that yesterdays teaching, all of these teachings, will shock the sleeping into wakefulness and action.
As I have mentioned previously, there is nothing in Scripture (to my knowledge) which encourages nor discourages arts, entertainment, and sports. Using the general label of entertainment this has been a part of culture for millennia. However, when Sunday becomes the biggest shopping day of the week, and various sports usurp our attention and time away from more meaningful endeavors something evil is a foot. I am not saying there is a problem with stopping at the store on the way home from Church, or attending or watching a sports event or other entertainment on Sunday or any other day. I am saying it must never take priority over our focus on the Kingdom of God.
As I researched this topic of Arts, Entertainment, and Sports, I found three different ways to think about them in the absence of direct Scriptural references.
- Does it rouse harmful desires?
- Is it permissible but not beneficial?
- Does it waste time?
Number one above speaks of rousing harmful desires. What are you hearing, what are you looking at, do they rouse (stir, provoke, revive, awaken, arouse) harmful or evil desires? What do you think about Playboy, R or X rated movies, or even others with evil themes even if not visually explicit? Think about what direction the art you are viewing, the entertainment you partake in, even the sports you watch or participate in are taking you. Taking you first in your mind then in your words and actions. Consider the following passage.
Romans 8:5-8 (KJV)
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
As it relates to point number two above, “Is it permissible but not beneficial” let’s listen to the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul.
1 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV)
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Now don’t be misled here, he is not talking about greasy grace. Studying the full context and the full counsel of Scripture, he talks about things which are legal but not expedient or profitable. He spends a lot of time speaking about buying in the marketplace meats and eating them that have been sacrificed to false gods. Bottom line is that it is legal (not forbidden by God) but if it offends one with you don’t do it. A minister we watched had a series talking about love over knowledge. It is love (agapē) not compromise to avoid offending your brother. One can gently bring Scriptural knowledge to the brother but no cramming down ones throat.
2 Timothy 2:24 (KJV)
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
Then number three above, is it wasting time. Maybe you’re scrolling on your device. Is it productive, is it taking time that you might or know you should have used differently?
Ephesians 5:15-17 (KJV)
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
The phrase “redeeming the time” in verse sixteen is best translated as making the best use of our time. Our time is our most valuable resource. How are we spending it?
Again, let me remind all of us that we are in full-time Ministry whether we are in the Religion Mountain or not. Full-time Ministry is generally regarded as being a Minister in the Religion Mountain but that is a gross misunderstanding of who you are at salvation. Before salvation we were in full-time ministry for the kingdom of darkness, now the Kingdom of Light.
TAKE HOME:
- Are you listening or looking at things that arouse harmful desires?
- Are all the legal things (before God) you do beneficial for you and your brother?
- Are you wasting time?
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
