A PRIEST FOREVER
Monday – October 2, 2017

Last week I dealt with the priesthood extensively however we only scratched around on the surface. We discussed the first High Priest Aaron and our High Priest Jesus Christ. We recently spoke about how Jesus was tempted, experienced temptation, at every point just as we are tempted. Scripture tells us that because He came as a man, was tempted as we are tempted, yet without sin, He is able to come along side us to help.
Hebrews 2:18 (KJV)
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
You will recall that the word ’succour’ is the equivalent of ‘help-meet’ that we see in the discussion of Adam needing a wife. A help-meet or one who succors (with u is old English) is one ideally suited to come along side and help. When we are thinking our situation is so unique, not only was Jesus faced with the very same temptation, but millions of others are likely dealing with it even at that moment. Before we move forward I want to amplify a point in the following verse.
Hebrews 3:1 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Notice the phrase “Apostle and High Priest of our profession”. As we consider this let’s also think back to the following verse. An Apostle is one ordained or appointed of God as a special messenger (Ambassador) to the Church to bring correction, to amplify doctrine, to bring discipline, and to bring revelation. The primary function of the Ambassador is to reconcile those to whom God sends them to Himself. Remember, in the case of the Apostle that mission of reconciliation to God is not to the world but to the Church. A priest on the other hand is one who basically is an intercessor standing between us and God (Advocate and second witness). Christ Jesus is “the Apostle and High Priest of our profession”. The word translated as ‘profession’ is the same as confession, and is the Greek to English transliteration ‘homologia’ meaning to say the same thing. We are to say the same thing as The Word. When we are saying something else, repeating a doctrine of demons Christ Jesus has no function as “the Apostle and High Priest” of our words. However, when you consider our text from Hebrews 1:3 (below) we find that as the Son, as God, He is being sure that all natural and spiritual laws are operating as designed.
Hebrews 1:3 (KJV)
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (bold added)
So, when our words are those of God we get abundance in that area, when they are a doctrine of devils we get stealing, killing, and destroying. It should be pretty easy for us to decide which one suits us the best. When we say what Christ Jesus says we get the same results He got and all of the promises of God are operational in our lives. Remember every fact is established by at least two witnesses in the natural and the spirit. When we say what the Word says Christ Jesus is the second and confirming witness, when we say what the devil says, he is the confirming witness. Now let’s move on to our text in Hebrews chapter five.
Hebrews 5:1-6 (KJV)
1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Isn’t the Word of God just wonderful? The priests of old had to offer the gifts, the sacrifices of innocent animals to temporarily cover (atonement) sin, year to year. Our High Priest was the sacrifice and now stands between us and God in the presence of the New Blood Covenant marked with His Blood. He is our Intercessor, our Advocate with the Father. The priests of old could have compassion on the people for they faced the same pressures of life but unlike Jesus were not without sin. Men did not choose to be priests (as many today) but were called and ordained of God. They were of the tribe of Levi. Likewise, Jesus although He was not of the tribe of Levi but Judah was appointed of the Father as our High Priest. Christ Jesus is our High Priest “for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
